Women's first team progress into Basque Cup quarter-finals

The Armeras prevailed over CD Elorrio in a 4-0 away qualifying victory to clinch a quarter-final spot

SD Eibar Women's first team finished what was a fine second campaign in Segunda División in sixth spot and level on 36 points with Añorga as the ladies further establish themselves in the second tier.

With the league campaign now over, the Armeras go in search of Basque Cup glory, a competition in which they fell at the final hurdle last term after losing out to Añorga in a thrilling showpiece.

The Basque Cup quarter-finals are to be staged over two legs on 14 and 21 May, with Eibar set to take on CD Berrio Otxoa.

The Armeras sealed their passage into the quarter-finals after overcoming Elorrio in a 4-0 away romp in a game which the visitors went on to utterly dominate following an even start to proceedings.  The Armeras netted the opener in a routine straight off the training ground: Olatz Areitio sent a delivery over to the far post, where Esti Arretxe leapt highest to head the past former Eibar goalie Miriam.

From this point on, the Armeras began to dominate and some excellent link-up play between Uxue Larrea and Sara saw the latter unleash a shot which found the far corner to double the visitors' advantage.

Ten minutes before the interval, Esti drove in from off the flank and fired the ball over the home side's custodian to put her side three goals to the good.

The second half began in a similar fashion and it wasn't long before Sara Tazo rounded off the scoring to make it 4-0 following a fine piece of individual play. Having notched their fourth of the afternoon and with the result now beyond all doubt, the Armeras proceeded to take their foot of the gas and no further goals were forthcoming.
