Mascot
Pantxika
Meet our mascot, a donkey from the Gorosta neighbourhood of Gorosta Ballia, a part of Eibar.
Donkeys have been very present in the history of Eibar, as these tireless workers have helped with the hardest tasks in the farmhouses over the years, while they populated the foothills of Akondia and Garagoiti around a century ago, where they helped farmers to grow wheat and corn. Nowadays, barely half of the 50 or so farmhouses that once existed in that area remain and hardly any crops are grown, other than a little corn, so the donkeys have reduced in numbers.
Our mascot is a tribute to all those donkeys that contributed to the evolution of Eibar, helping the city become what it is today. It’s a way of showing appreciation for this hard-working, friendly, gentle and very intelligent animal.
