SD Eibar Foundation & the NGO Egoaizia sign partnership agreement

This link-up seeks to support and promote the development of the Eibar Sports School in Piura (Peru)

This morning saw SD Eibar receive a visit from several members of the Eibar-based NGO, Egoaizia¸ the purpose of which was to sign a partnership agreement which will see the two institutions join forces to work on the development of the Eibar Sports School in Piura, Peru. The opening of the school, which took place 14 years ago, was the result of the effort and solidarity of Eibar residents and volunteers, who have been travelling to Peru each year to work on the project.

This agreement sees the SD Eibar Foundation reaffirm its commitment to working alongside other organisations and institutions with a view to promoting the club's values, such as teamwork, self-sacrifice, respect for others and humility. The sports project - which is based in Piura, one of the poorest and most rural areas of Peru - seeks to educate boys and girls and distance them from negative lifestyle habits through the practice of football.

The Eibar Sports School in Piura boasts an academy of 150 boys and girls, in addition to several teams which compete and are excelling in the Women's Football League, with one of the players having received a call-up to the full Peruvian national team. The teams that make up the Eibar Sports School in Piura are as follows:

  • Second Division Amateur MENS
  • Under-17s BOYS
  • Under-15s BOYS
  • Under-13s BOYS
  • Senior WOMEN
  • Under-17s WOMEN

The signing of this partnership agreement involved the SD Eibar Foundation covering the travel costs of the school's headmaster, Wilmer Bermejo, so as to enable him to visit Eibar for the first time in 14 years. During the course of his stay, Bermejo has taken part in training alongside our staff (the heads of the academy, methodology, women's football and members of the management team), whilst he has also taken in a first-team training session at Atxabalpe and attended a talk on values in youth football.

Meanwhile, the SD Eibar Foundation will cover the costs of school's material needs, making a highly significant contribution to the school's sporting resources (bibs, training and match wear, footballs, traffic cones, marker cones and other training equipment),  which will result in major improvements to training sessions and the sporting activities undertaken.
