Ipurua VIP area hosts reception for women's first team

The Eibar president congratulated the squad on their tremendous season

The SD Eibar Women's first team squad and coaching staff received a reception from the club's president, Amaia Gorostiza, and other members of the board of directors in the Ipurua presidential box.

Just as the men's first team will take part in the traditional floral tribute to the Virgen of Arrate and the youth set-up will have an end-of-season event on 24 May on the pitch adjoining Ipurua, the ladies' first team were hosted by the president as they bode farewell to the current campaign.

The presidential box was the chosen setting as the club recognised the Armeras' excellent season, in which they comfortably assured their Segunda División status, finishing the campaign in sixth spot on 36 points.

During the course of the event, the players were informed by Gorostiza that if they manage to reach the Basque Cup semi-finals, the home tie will be staged at Ipurua, with Athletic B providing the opposition. This initiative is part of the club's commitment to promoting the women's game.

This weekend sees Eibar play host to CD Berrio Otxoa in the return leg of the sides' Basque Cup quarter-final tie. The Bilbao-based outfit ran out 1-0 winners in the first leg.

The event also saw two presentations made, with Ainhoa Larruskain scooping the Jokalari Eredugarria award as the player who best represents the club's values, whilst the Lan Onari medal went to captain Ainhoa Alonso in recognition of her status as the side's standout performer.

During her address, the SD Eibar president declared, "We members of the board are very proud of you and the great season that you've had in Segunda División".

"It's been a year in which we've established ourselves at this level and we hope that moving forward we can aspire to greater things. Of course, we'll fully support you in all ways possible in your efforts to leave the name of Eibar in a high place".
