A heavy defeat for the gunsmiths, who will have to keep fighting for salvation
With two games left, Eibar women’s team is two points above the relegation places.
Eibar’s ladies team travelled to Zizur Mayor to try and leave salvation all but guaranteed, but everything they’d hoped for went amiss and they departed defeated 3-1 by Ardoi.
In the 3rd minute, a ball that was seemingly going out of play behind the goal, shepherded by the gunsmith’s defence, was intercepted by the home side’s forward, who cut the ball back and after some good finishing Eibar were suddenly a goal behind. It was a major blow for the gunsmiths at the start of the game, and things got worse 2 minutes later when a ball, stolen in the middle of the field, led to a counter attack by the home team who made the scoreline 2-0.
In the 19th minute Olatz got one back, putting the ball into the back of the net to make the score 2-1. The gunsmiths kept trying and had various goal-scoring opportunities: Irati Lazkano had a shot from inside the area that brushed the post going wide, Haizea Lomba took too long in shooting at goal and had the ball taken off her, and in the final action of the first half, Melani, on the far post, sent a header just wide,
After the restart the home side, were better, and the few chances that the gunsmiths did create - by Ainhoa Alonso, Irati Lazkano and Haizea Lomba - were not especially dangerous. With almost an hour played, the ball was given away in the middle of the field, leading to a break that ended in a goal. Losing 3-1 the gunsmiths couldn’t even create any clear chances.
With this result and the teams behind them having won, two games are left until the end of the season, only one relegation place is left to be filled and many teams are involved in the struggle to avoid it.
