Immense Eibar hammer Valencia

The Armeros ran out 4-0 winners over Los Che at Mestalla

SD Eibar tonight matched their biggest LaLiga away win after cruising to a 4-0 victory over Valencia CF at Mestalla. The Armeros produced a fine performance in which they dominated throughout the 90 minutes.

After both sides spent the opening exchanges sizing each other up, Eibar soon evidenced their intentions of leaving Valencia with maximum points. The visitors first came closest to breaking the deadlock on 18' following an Anaitz Arbilla effort which flashed narrowly wide of the upright.

On 24' Eibar fired in another warning shot with a Dani García effort which sailed high over the bar. Three minutes later, Eibar took the lead with Sergi Enrich the man to make the breakthrough. The Balearic-born striker met Gonzalo Escalante's inviting centre with a diving header to put the Armeros into the ascendancy.

Valencia were barely mustering any chances as Eibar dominated proceedings. One of the game's key moments came on 45' when the referee pointed to the spot after Carlos Soler had hit out at Escalante, an incident which earned the Valencia midfielder his marching orders. Adrián stepped up to convert an excellent penalty and send Eibar in two goals to the good at the break.

The second half followed a similar script to the opening period. There were 56 minutes on the clock when Eibar captain Dani García rifled home a truly stunning strike after meeting a Valencia clearance on the volley to smash the ball into the top corner - a goal that'll remain long in the memory.

With Valencia having now given up on the game, Eibar poured forward in search of further goals and they extended their lead through Enrich, who grabbed his second of the night when he chested a cross from the right, before unleashing a shot that crept just inside the near post.

This perfect Eibar display saw the visitors record an historic rout to move onto 32 points, a tally which leaves the Armeros on the edge of the European spots. José Luis Mendilibar's side host Granada next Monday at Ipurua at 20:45, a game in which they'll be bidding to record a third straight LaLiga victory.
