The arrival of the Ciudad Deportiva de Areitio to the daily activity of the Sociedad Deportiva Eibar has marked a turning point in the sports structure of the club. Located at the top of Areitio, Mallabia, the complex has been designed to ensure maximum performance and efficient operation throughout the year, with the turf being one of the key elements of the project. The facilities include five fields designed with professional criteria: a hybrid grass pitch using stitching technique, a natural grass field, and three high-end artificial turf surfaces.
The hybrid field combines natural grass reinforced with artificial fibers to increase its structural stability and prolong its durability. This solution provides greater resistance to wear, especially during the winter months when the natural grass's regeneration capacity is reduced. The second natural field has been constructed with a high-quality traditional base, while the three artificial fields use the PURE PT model, a filler-free system that stands out for its sports performance, lower maintenance demand, and contribution to environmental sustainability. This material is certified with the European certification EN 15330-1.
All playing fields have been constructed from specific base layers for professional use, composed of rounded gravel, silica sands, and peat, with drainage systems and perimeter collection connected to the main irrigation reservoir. The total irrigated surface reaches 35,000 m², supplied by a 2,000 m³ reservoir fed by pumping from the Zubitegi stream and by the recovery of rainwater and filtration water.
With this configuration, SD Eibar consolidates a sports infrastructure prepared to withstand intensive training sessions, improve the lifespan of the surfaces, and ensure an optimal environment for the development of players and teams. The complete construction of the Sports City is scheduled for completion in May 2026.
