SD Eibar has equipped the fields of the Areitio Sports City with a state-of-the-art LED lighting system, designed to optimize energy consumption and ensure adequate light levels for the various sports uses of the complex. The installed luminaires, supplied by the brand Signify, stand out for their durability, luminous stability, and dimming capability.

The training fields have a lighting level of 250 lux, sufficient to ensure work sessions with uniform visibility and energy efficiency. Meanwhile, Field 1, with an artificial surface, has been designed for 500 lux, with a pre-installation that allows the capacity to be increased to 800 lux in case of promotion to higher categories or requirements arising from television broadcasts.

The system is managed through a control panel and also via an app, which allows for scheduling, setting operating times, and adjusting intensity based on the planned activity. Currently, the installation operates with three distinct modes: maintenance, training, and match, each with a specific level of brightness aimed at balancing efficiency and performance.

Thanks to this infrastructure, Areitio ensures optimal conditions for the daily work of the teams and anticipates future requirements, both in sports and technology. The use of LED technology, combined with intelligent regulation and growth planning, consolidates a lighting system aligned with professional club standards.

The game jersey, in white with red details and inspired by the model of that historic campaign, features the characteristic polo-style collar with a marked lapel, the old embroidered crest, and the classic Hummel logo. A faithful reinterpretation of the spirit of the late '80s, accompanied by shorts and socks in the same aesthetic line.

Alongside it, the goalkeeper kit replicates the one worn by José Ignacio Garmendia in that unforgettable season. In gray and navy blue, with long sleeves and characteristic shiny fabric, the garment evokes a time when every match was played with soul... even in the rain, and witnessed the goal scored by the goalkeeper that elevated him to hero status.

The material difficulties of the time also explain the presence of white in many teams. Before the Civil War, numerous youth football teams participating in the Chanchazelay championship, as well as other short-lived clubs, used completely white kits due to the ease of obtaining them.

When SD Eibar was founded in 1940, the city was still dealing with the consequences of the Civil War. After seven months of siege, twenty-nine air bombings, and constant shelling from the surrounding hills, Eibar had been deeply affected. In that context of resource scarcity, the team played its first season in completely white kits.

The following year, the team adopted a kit similar to the red and white of other clubs in the area, and since 1943, the blue and claret colors became the definitive ones for the club, inherited from one of its founders, UD Eibarresa. Since then, and as a reminder of those early times, the white jersey remained as the usual second kit, combined with dark blue shorts and socks of the same color.

For decades, that was the reference when Eibar needed to change colors. At the end of the 1970s, a slight variation in the design appeared: the white jersey was adorned with narrow horizontal blue and claret stripes at chest level. With the arrival of sponsors in the 1982-83 season, the kits began to modernize, although white continued to be maintained as a classic alternative.

Over the years and with the evolution of sports design, especially since the late 20th century, small variations began to appear: blue and claret stripes on the sleeves, details on the back, or slightly more elaborate designs introduced by the brand Astore, which for years had maintained a very sober style in the kits.

By the 21st century, the presence of third kits became widespread. Green was one of the first colors to become established, to the point that in the 2001-02 season, with futvol.com as the sponsor, the team's second kit was not white but green. For several seasons, that green jersey was frequently used as an alternative, although the white one remained present at different times.

One of the most memorable designs came in the 2004-05 season when Astore introduced the green-and-white jersey with horizontal stripes. That kit, debuted during the campaign that nearly saw promotion to the First Division with José Luis Mendilibar as coach, became one of the most popular among fans and has had various iterations over the years.

In more recent times, the increasing commercialization of kits has led the club to have three different uniforms each season. In this context, colors such as yellow, orange, black, gray, or sky blue have appeared. However, for practical reasons, the white jersey has continued to be a regular presence, as it provides an effective alternative when the opponent uses dark colors similar to blue and red.

Among the kits most cherished by fans is the one used in the 2020-21 season. That white jersey with a blurred diagonal blue and red stripe was designed as a tribute to the defunct Juventud Deportiva Arrate, a club founded in 1948 and closely linked to sports in Eibar, especially handball. Its design and symbolism have made it one of the most memorable second kits in the club's recent history.

Thus, more than a century after the first football matches in the city, the white jersey continues to be part of the imagination of S.D. Eibar: a garment born out of necessity, preserved by tradition, and present, in various forms and designs, throughout the entire history of the blue and red team.

The context explains everything

As documented in the club's 75th-anniversary book, SD Eibar's first kit in 1940 was completely white, largely influenced by the scarcity of resources at the time. The preserved images in Lerun confirm this. Later, briefly, a red-and-white kit with black shorts was used, until 1943 when the blue-and-claret kit was permanently adopted. At that time, Eibar did not even have its own field to play home matches, often holding them in Elgoibar and occasionally in nearby towns such as Deba or Bergara.

But if there is one color that has accompanied Eibar like a second skin throughout the decades, it has been white. The white jersey has been, by far, the most recurring second kit in our history. The Club's archive preserves photographs from different decades in which the team wore white, accompanied by sponsors that are also part of our collective memory: Compresores Samur, Imigas, Patés Sokoa, Embutidos Palacios, Euskotrenbideak, Alfa, or Norica.

The retro jersey presented today is an elegant fusion of all those white kits that have marked the club's journey. Every detail evokes the football of another era, when passion was felt closer and the crest was defended with soul.

Its design draws directly from the legendary 1987/88 season, reinterpreting the essence of that model with a contemporary perspective. It was an eternal campaign that culminated on May 15, 1988, in Tabira, against Cultural de Durango. On that day, the team led by Alfonso Barasoain secured mathematical promotion to the second division, putting an end to decades of attempts and writing one of the most exciting chapters in the club's history. Eibar had not competed in the Second Division since 1958 and had endured fourteen failed promotion attempts from the Third Division, in addition to spending three seasons in the Regional category between 1976 and 1979. That promotion—two years after achieving promotion to Segunda B in 1986 in Badajoz—was experienced as a historic moment for the entire Armeros fanbase.

Away Jersey

The new away jersey features a white color with maroon details, reinterpreting the aesthetics of the late 1980s. It stands out for its distinctive pronounced collar with a lapel, an iconic design widely present in the kits of that decade.

The old SD Eibar crest is embroidered on the chest, accompanied by the classic Hummel logo, aligned with the vintage spirit of the garment.

The chevrons and sides incorporate a characteristic fabric that reinforces the retro nod, in harmony with the shorts and socks, designed under the same aesthetic concept.

Goalkeeper Jersey

The goalkeeper kit is a faithful replica of the one used during that unforgettable season. In shades of gray and navy blue, with a distinctive collar, long sleeves, and a shiny fabric inspired by the materials of the era, the garment pays direct tribute to José Ignacio Garmendia, an eternal legend of the club.

Garmendia defended the goal for 19 seasons (1979–1998), ten of them in the Second Division, and remains the player with the most official matches played in the history of the club. Throughout his career, he played seven seasons in the Third Division, two in Second B, and ten in Second A, where he also won the Zamora Trophy for the goalkeeper with the fewest goals conceded in the 1991/92 and 1995/96 seasons.

But the 87/88 season also left an unforgettable moment. One windy and rainy afternoon at Ipurua, during a Second B match against Pontevedra in 1988, a long kick from his own goal ended up becoming a goal. The ball crossed the field, bounced in a puddle at the edge of the area, and ended up beating Joseba Aranguren in a play as unusual as it was unforgettable, turning the goalkeeper from Villabona into the hero of the day.

The shorts and socks, in gray with blue details, complete a kit that is not just about aesthetics: it tells a story.

On both jerseys, Smartlog and Galys, official sponsors of SD Eibar in the 25/26 season, are featured on the front and back, integrated into the design with respect for the retro identity.

El Eibar se hizo pronto con el control del balón y firmó los primeros acercamientos al área rival. El primero entre palos llegó a balón parado, con un lanzamiento de Anaitz Arbilla que obligó a intervenir al guardameta visitante.

Bajo la lluvia que comenzó a caer en Ipurua, el conjunto armero fue masticando el partido a base de posesión. Una cuestión de paciencia, de someter poco a poco al rival y de ir picando piedra en busca de los espacios.

El choque, sin embargo, se fue llenando de interrupciones. Las transiciones cortadas con faltas y tarjetas anticipaban un duelo igualado y de marcador corto. Aun así, el Eibar insistía con el balón, apostando por una circulación horizontal que abriera grietas por dentro.

El partido pedía más ritmo del que permitió Moreno Aragón, aunque pese a todo el público de Ipurua asistía a un duelo competido, con un Eibar dominador: 68% de posesión y dos remates frente al único intento del conjunto burgalés.

La SD Eibar viajará hasta Andorra en busca de la victoria en la 31.ª jornada de LaLiga Hypermotion, que tendrá lugar el sábado 21 de marzo en el Noy Estadi Encamp a partir de las 16:15 horas. 

March was marked in red on the calendar of the SD Eibar Foundation. A month of challenging goals, kilometers, and competition… but also of institutional responsibility. Because when Ipurua opens its doors to some of the most special competitions on the national scene, football transcends the scoreboard and becomes something greater.

Eibar PC responds at home

The Eibar PC, reigning champion of the National 7-a-side Football League PC organized by the Spanish Federation of Sports for People with Cerebral Palsy and Acquired Brain Injury (FEDPC), faced matchdays 4 and 5 of the competition with an added incentive: playing in front of their own fans.

The Ipurua Annex was the venue on March 7 and 8, for a new gathering of this league that brings together teams formed by people with cerebral palsy and acquired brain injury. A competition in which the Armero team has established itself as a national benchmark.

In sports terms, the results could not have been more positive.

Two victories that reinforce the team's good form and allow the Armero team to remain at the top of the table alongside the best. But the weekend left much more than results.

Much more than football

Beyond the strictly sporting aspect, the event at the Ipurua Annex was once again a true statement of intent.

The SD Eibar, with the support of Grupo Eibar, is one of the few professional clubs that has a specific football section for people with cerebral palsy and acquired brain injury. Hosting another phase of the National League at home reinforces that commitment and projects the club's role as an active agent of social inclusion.

Acting as hosts is not just an organizational matter. It is about opening our doors, giving visibility to this modality, and turning football into a true social engine for our neighbors.

For two days, Ipurua was once again a space for meeting, inclusion, and community. A place where players, clubs, and families share much more than a competition.

Because competing is important. But building a society is important too.

LaLiga Genuine: second stop in Mareo

The other competitive front of the weekend took the Armeros far from home. The SD Eibar Fundazioa returned to action in the second phase of LALIGA Genuine Moeve, held on March 7 and 8 at the Mareo Football School (Gijón).

After a solid start to the season in Tarragona within the Respect Group, the Armero team faced a new calendar event against high-level rivals.

On this occasion, the results did not favor the Armero team, which competed with intensity and enthusiasm in both matches but failed to score in the standings.

However, as always happens in LaLiga Genuine, the scoreboard is only part of the story. The camaraderie, sportsmanship, and values that define this competition once again marked a weekend that reaffirms the role of football as a tool for integration.

For this event, the Club has worked hand in hand with Hummel, SD Eibar's technical partner, and with the support of Smartlog as the main sponsor, on a proposal that directly connects with one of the most decisive seasons in its history. A season that marked a turning point. A team, an energy, and a conviction that remain very present in the collective memory of the Armeros.

The game jersey will be inspired by that historic campaign, recovering characteristic elements of the era and reinterpreting them from a modern perspective. A piece that connects generations and reaffirms the Club's identity from its roots.

Alongside it, a very special second jersey will be unveiled: the goalkeeper's jersey. In this case, it is a faithful replica of the one worn by the goalkeeper during that iconic season. A direct tribute to one of the protagonists of that unforgettable moment. Along with them, referees, patches, graphics... will bring this special matchday to life.

The official presentation will take place on Thursday, March 19, at Madrid Fashion Week, an environment where sports, design, and culture come together. SD Eibar will bring its history to the runway, amplifying the launch of a limited edition designed to transcend the playing field.

The jerseys will go on sale on March 20 at Orxaisan and the new store on Fermín Calbeton kalea. Limited units for a collection that not only recovers an aesthetic but an era.

The forward has automatically extended his contract after one of the clauses included in his agreement with the club was fulfilled.

Guruzeta (Donostia, 2000) joined the Eibar team in the summer of 2024 from Sestao River of Primera RFEF, a team where he stood out as an undisputed starter despite his youth, at 23 years old, with two goals to his name.

Trained in the youth academies of Real Sociedad and Antiguoko, the forward completed his development stage in Lezama, where he continued his progression until reaching Bilbao Athletic in Primera RFEF.

In his first season as an Eibar player, the Donostian scored three goals in 1,442 minutes of play. In the current season, he has made 24 appearances in Beñat San José's starting lineups, establishing himself as a regular piece in the team.

With this automatic renewal, the club ensures the continuity of a player in full competitive maturity, at 25 years old, and strengthens a project in which Guruzeta has already surpassed 50 official matches with the Eibar jersey and accumulated more than 3,100 minutes on the field.

The main supply comes from the Zubitegi stream, whose water is pumped to the main reservoir. This is complemented by the collection of rainwater and the reuse of water filtered from the irrigation system itself, which is also redirected back into the system. This circuit significantly reduces dependence on external resources and optimizes the use of available water in the Mallabia area.

The irrigation works through impact sprinklers, a system that ensures uniformity and precise control over each field. The installation incorporates remote management technology through a mobile application, from which schedules can be programmed, specific zones can be activated, or session durations can be adjusted based on the needs of the playing field.

The combination of automation, efficiency, and utilization of natural resources makes the Areitio irrigation system a strategic element to ensure the quality of the grass, both natural and artificial, and to sustain the daily activity of all the club's categories. With this design, SD Eibar strengthens its commitment to responsible and advanced management of its new facilities.

More than 430 boys and girls are participating this season, divided into 42 teams, which will play a total of 166 matches. The boys and girls from Za’atari will play 106 matches in 26 teams, while in Azraq, 60 matches will be held with 16 teams. The competition is organized into under-14 and under-16 categories for boys, and under-15 and under-18 categories for girls, ensuring the continuity of the young participants already part of the program and supporting their athletic and personal growth.

The participation of SD Eibar allows our colors to be seen on the field and our values, the same ones that guide our entire club and our inclusive projects, to accompany the players in every match. As part of the 16 professional clubs represented, we contribute to filling the playing fields with color, excitement, and passion, creating a real impact on the lives of these young people.

The program applies the methodology “Values to Win”, which rewards both sports performance and the behavior and attitude of participants on the field, with 3 points for sports merits and 7 for socio-educational merits. This season, individual evaluations for all players and coaches are also being introduced, enhancing their technical and human skills and reinforcing the message that football can be a driver of learning and personal development.

With our participation, the SD Eibar Fundazioa reaffirms its commitment to football as a social and educational tool, showing that professional sports can also create opportunities, inclusion, and community beyond our borders.

After the success of the second edition, which featured four events with a strong experiential focus, such as Zuhaitz's monologue, the already traditional and always entertaining business match at Ipurua, or the conferences by Igor González and Jon Salsamendi, the project begins this new phase with two clear objectives: to increase the number of affiliated companies and to strengthen the services offered to member companies.

Beñat San José's Eibar entered Riazor with Magunagoitia in goal, supported by a defensive line that, on paper, consisted of Cubero, Marco Moreno, Jair, and Corpas. In front of them, Peru Nolaskoain and Sergio Álvarez. Aleix Garrido positioned himself in the attacking midfield with Adu Ares and Javi Martínez on the wings. Up front, Javi Martón.

Depor takes the lead

The match started with intensity and chances in both areas. Deportivo was the first to make an attempt with a direct corner to the goal that ended with Cubero clearing it off the line. Shortly after, a header from Eddahchouri went wide.

But Eibar did not take long to respond. Javi Martón had a double consecutive chance: first with a shot that Ferllo deflected with an outstretched hand and then with a shot that went just wide of the post. A very clear chance for the azulgranas.

Amid this exchange of blows, Mario Soriano appeared with quality inside the area to make the difference: in the 16th minute, he reached the byline and assisted Eddahchouri, who did not miss, pushing it in and putting Deportivo ahead at Riazor.

After conceding the goal, Eibar managed to recover through possession, trying to organize the game and regain control of the match. However, the San José team lacked clarity to deliver advantageous passes and create real danger on the opponent's goal. Cubero was prominent in the most incisive attempts with two low crosses from the right wing that tested the local defense, although without achieving a decisive finish.

Superiority without effect

As had already happened against the leader, Eibar had to fight back after the break. The halftime break did not bring any changes to the script: the gunsmiths continued to dominate possession, but they lacked the final pass. This continued until, in the 50th minute, Peru headed a great cross from Aleix Garrido from a set piece, and the ball went over the crossbar. The first warning of the second half.

Deportivo also sought to extend their lead, with a clear opportunity at Villares' feet, but the clearest chance came for Eibar: Adu Ares, after a shot that deflected off an opponent, saw the ball hit the post before gently landing in the goalkeeper's hands.

After an hour of play, both coaches made substitutions in search of a new boost. For Eibar, the entry of Mada and Guruzeta brought energy to the offensive front. And it was the latter who once again troubled the home goal with a run that ended with a shot over the crossbar.

As the 80th minute arrived, Sergio Álvarez was substituted due to physical problems. In his place, San José brought on Jon Bautista to pair with Martón up front. However, it was Depor who came close to scoring again with a recovery in the opposing half. Although Deportivo had the clearest chances, they were always the result of a mistake by the blue and claret team. Meanwhile, the game unfolded in the Galician half.

In the final stretch, Eibar continued to monopolize the ball and search for an equalizer, even with one of those incursions by the goalkeeper to try to score in the area, but this time, football did not deliver justice, leaving the control and dominance of the gunsmiths without points.

During his time at Ipurua, he played a total of 48 official matches: 47 in LaLiga Hypermotion and one in the Copa de SM el Rey, with 2,424 minutes defending the armera jersey.

The opponent: «Deportivo is a great team. Not only do they have a good starting eleven, but also a complete squad and a coach with a lot of experience and tactical level. It is a historic club, and at their home, I expect a very intense, very tactical match with a lot of individual talent. They will also have their pressure because of what they represent. We will have to be very attentive in our pressing jumps, in when to press with the wings, and in how to adjust our defensive line. They are strong in one-on-one situations and are very well tactically worked. It will be key to be very well organized. And then there is our part: playing our football, having personality with the ball, and looking for the spaces we can generate or that they concede to us».

Countdown away from home: «It is true that we have not yet won away, but instead of seeing it as a burden, we see it as a positive countdown. We have taken small steps by scoring points, and we believe that victory has to come. We know we are going to one of the most demanding visits, but it will also be difficult for them to play against Eibar. It is going to be a very competitive match. Mentally, we have to be positive, give our best version in defense and attack, and believe that victory is closer».

Juan Bernat: «We are eager for him to progress as quickly as possible, but we have to take it step by step. This week he will not be able to be called up. He has been gradually participating in some exercises, and the progression is positive. He is a very professional player who takes good care of himself, but the pace of training and matches is different. We will see if he can be available next week. Even so, we cannot rush. We want him to join firmly».

The importance of not obsessing over away victories: «Our obsession must be the season as a whole and showing complete and competitive football. The away victory must be seen as an opportunity, not as a burden. If the obsession generates negative thoughts or tension, it is not useful. We want to compete well, show our football, and understand that away from home, the opponent becomes stronger, as it happens to all of us. The mindset is positive: it is an opportunity to play a great match and for victory to come as a consequence of competing well».

One year at Eibar: «My assessment is first emotional. For me, coaching Eibar is a great responsibility and a tremendous pride. I have always had a lot of affection for the club, and now feeling like its coach is something very powerful. We know that the club is going through a complex moment within the last decade, but we also know how to compete and connect with the fans, which is key. In football terms, we have had very high peaks and some lower ones. We have been self-critical and have improved. Neither when we were at the top did we think we were the best, nor when we were at the bottom did we think that was what we deserved. The balance is positive, and I am very proud, grateful, and happy».

More than 120 players and coaches from the armero team, corresponding to six cadet and youth teams, dedicated their goals to collaborate with this cause.

Goals Against Childhood Cancer is a collaborative movement driven by the Unoentrecienmil Foundation and supported by the Royal Spanish Football Federation. In its first edition, it was backed by six regional federations and Catholic Schools, raising more than 48,000 euros and bringing together 236 clubs from across the country.

The research conducted thanks to the Unoentrecienmil Foundation "has shown that physical exercise accelerates the recovery of children with cancer, increasing survival chances, reducing hospitalization time by 17%, mitigating the side effects of treatment, and improving their self-esteem and quality of life," explains Elena Huerte-Mendicoa, director of the Unoentrecienmil Foundation.

The Unoentrecienmil Foundation is dedicated to promoting research projects to find a complete cure for childhood leukemia, the most common cancer in children. In Spain, one case is diagnosed daily, which is a major upheaval for families, as 20% of these children do not overcome it. Unoentrecienmil is the only Spanish foundation exclusively focused on childhood leukemia.

A convenient decision: «I had been a long time without competing. What I wanted was to compete again, to play football once more. I finished last season at Getafe and had to undergo surgery for pubalgia. As I said, I had been a long time without enjoying football, and I wanted to feel like a footballer again. Eibar has given me the opportunity, I am very grateful and eager to be ready as soon as possible”. 

His first days and the timeline to compete: «It has been a long time since I competed or trained with a team. I would give myself ten days or a couple of weeks, but we will see how I progress with training. What I want is to be ready as soon as possible to help the team from now until the end of the season. I have found a wonderful group. Also, I come at a positive moment because of yesterday's victory, which was very important. I am very eager to start and to be able to help on the field as soon as possible».

The team's system: «I think my characteristics are well known. I am an offensive full-back who likes to attack. The team tries to play that way, keeping the ball, combining, and also alternating with more direct play. Yesterday I saw that Ipurua is a very tough field for opponents, and I hope it continues to be that way until the end of the season».

Without a team, but staying active: «I followed a training plan. It's not the same to train alone as with a team, but I have been training a lot and preparing myself so that, when the opportunity to join a team came, I would be as prepared as possible».

The locker room he found: «It is a very good group, young, eager to improve every day, to compete at the highest level, and to try to finish as high as possible in the standings».

The goal in the 93rd minute at Ipurua: «A lot of joy. Winning in the 94th minute gives you an extra boost of happiness, and those were three very important points for the team».

What the coach asked of him: «I spoke with him when I arrived. He explained the game plan and the system to me. I won't say more about the tactical part because it's something internal to the team, but I really liked what he conveyed to me and the idea of football he wants to implement. That was important to me».

César Palacios: “It is clear that different circumstances and moments have to align for a player of Juan's level to be here with us. Above all, it is also important to highlight the enthusiasm he has shown to play and compete again, and, within his career, the humility to want to be here. As he himself said, everything happened very quickly. The market had closed, he hadn't signed with any team, and we had him on our radar of players. You always have to be aware of who is left available after the market closes. For us, it was a complicated situation because we didn't have the capacity to make moves, and until the last day, we couldn't resolve the situation with Buta, which allowed us to create the necessary financial margin to bring in a player. First, it happened that he became available. Sometimes you ask, thinking it might be impossible, and suddenly they tell you it might be feasible. At that moment, everything happened quickly on everyone's part, with enthusiasm and excitement, and that is something to be grateful for. From there, hopefully, he can bring out everything he has inside, especially that desire to play football, which is the most important thing, and contribute all his quality and level to help the team keep improving and face each match in better shape.”

To face the leader at Ipurua, Eibar presented a recognizable lineup, designed to once again demonstrate that it is a tough nut to crack on its home turf. Jonmi Magunagoitia took the goal, backed by a defensive line formed by Cubero, Marco Moreno, Jair, replacing the suspended Peru Nolaskoain, and Arbilla.

In the midfield, Sergio Álvarez and Lander Olaetxea repeated as the pair in the double pivot, tasked with maintaining balance and toughening every contest against a Racing team accustomed to setting the pace. Ahead, Guruzeta and the return of Corpas to the eleven supported Mada inside, with the mission of connecting and assisting Jon Bautista.

Racing imposes its effectiveness

And under that premise, Eibar found its first opportunity. A long ball to Corpas, before the fifth minute, turned into a chance by the winger himself, who created space with two cuts before the Cantabrian wall blocked his shot.

Racing responded in the 11th and 15th minutes, after stringing together several minutes of possession with purpose. Jair appeared providentially to disrupt Guliashvili just enough and deflect his shot, which went awry, as did a second angled attempt. Eibar did not lose composure and replied with a shot from Olaetxea that once again tested the visiting defense.

In the 19th minute, a Racing combination following a possible foul on Corpas led to the clearest chance so far, finished by Mantilla over the crossbar. The home team's response was swift: a deep pass found a hard-to-detect Guruzeta from the opposite flank, his cross traveled to the far post, and Mada, arriving at pace, struck first-time with a shot that grazed the post.

The match had no clear owner, but there was a team with greater finishing ability. That was what the statistics suggested before the match, and it proved true in the 22nd minute. Andrés Martín put Racing ahead with a volley after a cross from Mantilla on the right, a play that showcased the resolute capability that keeps the Cantabrian team at the top of the table.

Until halftime, the contest remained open. Racing threatened again with a shot from Facu González from the edge of the box that forced Magunagoitia to intervene, while Eibar persisted in their bid for an equalizer with a move on the right that Lander Olaetxea headed with intent. The leader struck first, but Ipurua had already made it clear that it would not be an easy opponent to break down.

Tie from the bench

Eibar returned from the break determined to bite. A cross from Arbilla to the heart of the area was caught by Guruzeta as best he could, but the referee raised the flag for offside, a decision confirmed by the replay. Ipurua already sensed that the equalizer was getting closer.

Past the hour mark, and after several plays where the idea was good but the legs didn't quite follow through, Beñat San José shook up the game with a triple substitution: Javi Martínez, Javi Martón, and Adu Ares came on for Corpas, Olaetxea, and Bautista. The move revitalized the team and reinforced the feeling that the leader was starting to face an increasingly tough opponent, one that could turn the tables at any moment.

The reward came shortly after. A long ball from Sergio Álvarez found Javi Martón, who controlled it with his head before finishing with cold blood, slotting it through Jokin Ezkieta's legs on practically his first touch of the ball. A tie orchestrated from the bench and celebrated by a crowd that saw Eibar rise again against the league leaders.

With the 1-1 already shining at the top of Ipurua, Racing reminded everyone of their status as leaders with a shot from Suleiman that hit the post, a warning that their firepower remained intact. However, in the 80th minute, a very reckless action by Puerta left the Cantabrians with ten men and changed the scenario for the final stretch.

In stoppage time, when the draw seemed sealed and the leader was holding on as best they could, Ipurua pushed with everything. Two consecutive shots were saved on the line, two chances that seemed to signal a cruel fate. But Eibar didn't let go. The ball returned to the area, stayed alive among legs and deflections, and Álvaro appeared to push it into the net and make the stadium erupt.

The 2-1 was the reward for persistence, conviction, and the faith of a team that never stopped fighting. The leader fell at Ipurua because they faced an unbreakable opponent. A comeback full of character, orchestrated from the bench and completed in the final moments, reaffirms Eibar as one of the toughest rivals in the league.

After toppling the leader, Eibar will face another tough opponent in the category: RC Deportivo at Riazor on Saturday 21st starting at 4:15 PM.

Juan Bernat Velasco (Cullera, Valencia, March 1, 1993) is a fast left-back with a clear offensive vocation and a notable ability to reach the opponent's area. He stands out for his depth on the left flank and his ease in providing assists, qualities that have allowed him to establish himself for years in top international clubs.

Trained in the youth ranks of Valencia CF, Bernat debuted with the first team, with which he played 74 official matches. His performance led him to make the leap to FC Bayern Munich, where he played between the 2014/2015 and 2018/2019 seasons, accumulating 102 appearances and winning numerous titles. Subsequently, he was transferred to Paris Saint-Germain, a club where he played 114 matches until the 2024/2025 season.

In the last two seasons, the Valencian defender has played for SL Benfica and Villarreal CF on loan. In January 2025, the "groguet" club formalized his permanent signing, although he later joined Getafe CF, his last experience before arriving at SD Eibar.

The left-back boasts an impressive record: a total of 17 official titles, including four Bundesligas and three German Super Cups with Bayern; four Ligue 1 championships with PSG, among other achievements.

Additionally, Bernat has been a full international with the Spanish National Team, with which he has played 11 matches and scored one goal, and he also holds a U-19 European Championship title.

With this signing, SD Eibar adds experience, quality, and international pedigree to its squad to face the decisive stretch of the season.

Welcome, Juan!

The Armro team, led by Antonio Corral, lined up Edu, San Martín, Ansola, Cans, Kaiku, Valdés, Montalbán, Arzallus, Berecibar, Uncilla, and Luis Mari Aranegui. Just before halftime, Valdés took a throw-in that Berecibar headed into the heart of the area, and Aranegui scored a spectacular header. Years later, this same Aranegui would become president of SD Eibar.

The second half quickly showed the intensity of the match. The home team equalized at the start and took the lead with a penalty half an hour in. But the most memorable action came a few minutes later: Montalbán, who had scored three goals against Zaragoza in the first leg, shone again with the “trickster” play. After a lofted ball into the area by Guisasola “Kaiku,” the home goalkeeper Yarza touched the ball with his hand outside the area. Ipurua rose again as an auditorium just seven days after the last victory of the Armeros and, for the occasion, Beñat San José slightly adjusted the score that had successfully played against UD Almería. Eibar faced Sporting with Jonmi Magunagoitia as the tempo guardian under the posts; Cubero, Marco Moreno, Peru Nolaskoain, and Arbilla formed the string line in defense. In the engine room, Sergio Álvarez and Lander Olaetxea repeated as metronomes, setting the rhythm and balance of the performance. Ahead, Corpas, Guruzeta, and Mada took on the more creative roles, adding nuances and harmony in the attacking midfield, while Javi Martón once again positioned himself as the final note, the reference responsible for emphasizing each attack.

Tuned in the first act

The first beat of the match was set by Sporting with a very off-target shot by Queipo in the 4th minute, a note out of tune that did not alter the script proposed by the Armeros. With determination, they responded with a much more refined action: a run by Guruzeta that brought the Ipurua stands to their feet and resulted in two consecutive corner kicks, the first signs that the Armeros' orchestra was ready to take the initiative.

The score demanded more and Mada composed

The resumption brought the change of tone that Ipurua was asking for. In the 48th minute, the armera team finally found the chord they had been rehearsing. Corpas launched a deep pass, Yáñez failed to catch it, and Martón, persistent like a good percussionist, seized the rebound to pass it back. There Mada appeared, from the attacking midfield, to fine-tune the shot and score the 1-0 that unleashed the climax in the stands.

The goal gave continuity and confidence to an Eibar that continued interpreting their piece with intent. Peru Nolaskoain came close to the second goal by heading a cross from the right that went just wide, and shortly after, Corpas drew a diagonal inside the area and crossed the shot, forcing Yáñez to deflect it to a corner in the 55th minute.

At that point, both coaches adjusted their strategies. San José brought on Bautista to replace a Martón who was already exhausted after tireless work. Sporting then tried to find their own rhythm, taking advantage of two armera mistakes, but the lack of precision in the final meters gave Eibar an extra life. They managed to maintain the rhythm and hold onto the lead, partly thanks to the saving interventions of Jonmi, which secured three points. Additionally, the match ended with Eibar having one more player due to Otero's VAR expulsion in the final stretch.

SD Eibar will travel to Zaragoza in the next matchday to face Real Zaragoza at the Ibercaja Stadium on Saturday, February 7th at 6:30 PM.

Magunagoitia (Amorebieta, 2000) returned to the club in the summer of 2024 to join the men's first team squad, coming from SD Amorebieta, after completing an outstanding period with the Biscayan team. The goalkeeper was already familiar with the club, as he was part of the youth team in the 2017/18 season and later played for CD Vitoria between 2019 and 2021.

Before his return to Ipurua, Jonmi defended the goal of Zamora CF and later became a key player in SD Amorebieta's promotion to the Second Division.

With this renewal, the club ensures the continuity of the goalkeeper for another season. The keeper has already surpassed 50 official matches wearing the Eibar jersey and has accumulated nearly 5,000 minutes of play, in a career marked by his consistency between the posts and a memorable goal that is now part of the club's recent history.

The main buildings, corresponding to the grandstand and the men's first team center, incorporate state-of-the-art aerothermal systems for air conditioning and domestic hot water (DHW) production. These systems use air-to-water heat pumps that allow up to 70% of the required energy to be extracted from the outside air, significantly reducing energy consumption compared to conventional heating and cooling systems such as fossil fuel boilers. However, Areitio also has a gas boiler to support the aerothermal system during periods of higher usage.

In addition, grid-connected photovoltaic solar panels have been installed, enabling the complex to generate its own electricity. Over a year of operation, the installation is capable of covering approximately 20% to 25% of the total electrical demand of the Sports City, significantly reducing dependence on the conventional grid and contributing to the optimization of energy consumption in the various buildings.

The architecture of the complex incorporates passive sustainability strategies from the design phase, including optimized solar orientation, thermal gain control systems through shading elements, and high-efficiency thermal insulation. The construction solutions achieve thermal transmittance values below 0.25 W/m²·K in facades and 0.20 W/m²·K in roofs, along with controlled natural ventilation systems. These criteria improve indoor thermal comfort and reduce the demand for active air conditioning, effectively integrating into high-use spaces such as gyms, locker rooms, and medical rooms, as well as administrative and technical areas.

Accessible design constitutes another pillar of the project. All buildings comply with current regulations, ensuring adapted routes, access, and services, providing comfortable and safe use for players, staff, visitors, and people with reduced mobility.

With this approach, SD Eibar reinforces its commitment to sustainability and the energy efficiency of its facilities. Areitio's energy solutions not only reduce the environmental impact of the complex but also ensure stable and optimized operation for the daily activities of the teams, while creating a benchmark in energy management for sports infrastructures. Areitio is fully aligned with international best practices to achieve efficient sports facilities with a low carbon footprint and optimized long-term operating costs.

There are matches played with the ball and others played with memory. This Sunday’s game at Ipurua belongs to both categories. SD Eibar will host Real Sporting de Gijón starting at 4:15 PM in the 24th round of LaLiga Hypermotion, in the most repeated match in the club's history (46 games) and a new chapter in a rivalry built over time, shared battles, and mutual respect.

To find the origin of this long shared journey, one must go back to the 1954-55 season, Eibar's debut in the Second Division (North Group). Sporting's first visit to Ipurua took place on January 9, 1955, on an afternoon marked by heavy rain and a completely muddy pitch. Before the ball started rolling, two bouquets of flowers were presented to the visiting captain, Prendes, and the president of Eibar, in a gesture that preceded a match now inscribed in memory.

That day, Antonio Corral's Eibar lined up with Edu, Echarri, Cans, Antonio Ansola, San Martín, Igoa II, Larrabeiti, "El Negro" Valdés, Luis Mari Aranegui, Llona, and Guridi.
