Women's team secure important win over direct rivals

The Armeras ran out 2-1 away winners against Aurrera de Vitoria to move up to sixth

SD Eibar Women saw off Aurrera to claim a valuable 2-1 victory in Vitoria against a side with whom they were level on 28 points prior to kick-off.

This triumph sees the Armeras leapfrog the Vitoria outfit and climb up to sixth in Group 2 of the Segunda División, one point behind the fifth-placed team and three shy of fourth spot.

Eibar got their noses in front on 15' when Olatz swung over a free-kick from a wide area, with the ball ricocheting off a home defender and into the net.

After having made the breakthrough, the Armeras sought to build on their advantage and full-back Irati had the chance to have doubled her side's lead when she found herself clean through, but she failed to find the net.

The hosts sought to hit back and nearly did so after a move which saw one of the hosts' attackers get past Yessi and unleash a shot, only to be denied by Irati in the Eibar goal.

The home side, who boasted a height advantage, posed a real threat on set pieces. On 45', right on the stroke of half-time, the home side restored parity with a shot from the edge of the area.

Despite the setback of conceding, Eibar came out for the second period looking determined to get back on top and in the 48th minute, Mar found herself one-on-one with the hosts' goalkeeper and she slotted home what would prove to be the winner.

The Armeras comfortably saw out the rest of the game to pick up three important points and cement their place in mid-table.
