Women's first team name new coach and announce ambitious targets

Xuban Peña will coach the side next term, with the aim being to secure promotion to the First Division

SD Eibar Women's first team are poised to head into next season's Second Division campaign with ambitious targets under the stewardship of new coach Xuban Peña.

In recent weeks, the team's coaching staff has been overhauled with renowned, high-quality professionals coming in to strengthen the project, with a view to achieving promotion to the First Division. Ion Zabaleta has been named as the new head of women's football.

The first team are set to return for pre-season training on August 1st, with the new members of the playing squad to be announced in the coming days.

In terms of meeting the established targets, Eibar Women are set to benefit from a bigger budget, an improved approach and better resources, whilst the club will support the team with the board of directors offering its backing.

Plans are in place for Ipurua to continue to be used for the ladies' fixtures, as was the case during the 2016/17 campaign for the friendly game against CD Tacón and the Basque Cup clash Athletic Club B.

SD Eibar wishes to express special thanks for the dedication shown over the course of many years by the departing coaching staff, who will continue to work in the club's scouting department.

The women's first team coaching staff will be made up of:

Coach: Xuban Peña, 1988. Peña joins the club from Lagun Onak, where he enjoyed a four-year stint as manager of the club's Under-19s, guiding the side to promotion to the national division and keeping them there ever since.

Assistant coach: Aiheko Uria, 1980. Uria checks in from CD Hernani.

Fitness coach: Josu Larrañaga, 1992. Larrañaga also joins the club following a spell at Lagun Onak.
