The Provincial Council makes a commitment to SD Eibar to collaborate with the renovation of Ipurua

The Deputy for Culture and Sports communicates to the Mayor of Eibar and the new president of the Club, the willingness of the Regional body to provide €320,000 toward the cost of the new East stand

The first Deputy Mayor of the Provincial Council and responsible for Culture and Sports, Denis Itxaso, this morning held a working meeting in Ipurua with the Mayor of Eibar, Miguel de los Toyos, and the new President of Sociedad Deportiva Eibar, Amaia Gorostiza, during which, in addition to reviewing the general situation of the club following the end of the season and the change in the presidency, the project of renovation and expansion of the Ipurua stadium has been discussed.

The Club has recently commenced the work to replace the old East stand with a new one that will increase the capacity in a manner agreed consensually with the City Council, something that the Provincial Council has underlined as an “essential” element, due to the complexity of the town planning entailed by the redevelopment of this feature of Eibar. Itxaso has framed the Provincial government’s support to Ipurua in terms of “the same percentage of funding as provided for the renovation of the Anoeta stadium”.

Of the approximately 40 million euros that the improvements to the ground in San Sebastian will cost, the Provincial Council has assumed the commitment to provide 4 million, so that the assistance toward the rebuilding of the stand at Ipurua, with a total budget of €3,200,000, requires that the Department of Culture and Sports also contributes 10% of this amount. Thus, Itxaso has committed to an allocation of €320,000 destined toward  co-financing the improvement of the Eibar stadium.

“It is essential that we maintain the balance and avoid unnecessary differential treatment because it is true that for the third year running Guipuzkoa can count on two teams in the top tier of Spanish football and faced with the need of SD Eibar to adapt to the regulations of the Professional Football League, the Provincial Government cannot look the other way”, said the Provincial Council`s number two .

For her part, Amaia Gorostiza said she was “delighted” by the announcement. “It is not so much a question of the economic amount that we finally receive from the Provincial Council, which, of course, is also important, but rather the commitment to Eibar signified by this decision.

For us, this involvement of the Provincial Council represents an important recognition for this Club, that proudly carries the name of Gipuzkoa wherever it goes”.

The President of the Club said that “this construction work is of vital importance for SD Eibar in its desire to consolidate and strengthen its position in the elite” and she thanked the Club’s season ticket holders for their patience and good will shown during the process of relocation that is currently taking place as a result of the building work.
