The End-of- Season Event for Grassroots Football celebrated in style

The event was attended by 600 guests and institutional representatives

The Ipurua Annex was the venue yesterday for the Grassroots football end-of-season ceremony organised by SD Eibar Foundation.

The event, headed by the President of SD Eibar,  Amaia Gorostiza, was attended by some 600 guests, mainly players and their parents, with a broad institutional representation, which included the Chairman of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, Markel Olano and the Mayor of Eibar, Miguel de los Toyos.

A large marquee with a stage installed in the ground adjacent to Ipuria received the nearly 200 players from the nine teams that make up the Grassroots Football, as well as the coaches of each team, the players’ parents and a representation of Eibar society composed of the sponsors that collaborate with the Foundation, the ex-players Igor Arenaza and Ibon Muguruza, and the political parties.

During the event’s opening ceremony, Amaia Gorostiza said that it was the most “convivial” and “important” meeting she had been to since assuming the presidency of the Club.

She emphasised that Grassroots Football was “the cornerstone” of the Club’s future social and sporting project.

The President announced that from next season the Club will no longer collect the fees that until now the families have had to pay for their children to form part of the Club’s youth teams.

“These were established in Division 2 (B), when Eibar’s financial situation was very complicated so now, when the situation is fortunately very different, it is only fair that we  abolish the fees that the you, the families have being paying until now”, she said.

The Sporting Director, Fran Garagarza, the Manager of the Foundation, Jon Arregi and the Coordinator of Grassroots Football,  Mikel González, explained the general outlines of the Board of Directors’ new project to consolidate the social and sporting model into the gunsmiths’ cantera (youth teams).

In addition, two players from each team received the “Jokalari Eredugarria” (exemplary player) award, which recognises the player who best represent the gunsmiths’s values, and the distinction “Lan Onari”, (excellent work) which rewards outstanding sporting performance   Those players selected for the Basque teams also received the Club’s appreciation.
