SD Eibar & Wiko offer courses in Robotics for school children at Ipurua
Teamwork, creativity and technology are at the heart of the workshops
The SD Eibar Foundation and Wiko are offering and subsidising a significant portion of a series of courses in robotics aimed at school children, which are to be staged at the Ipurua Training Centre from 17 October.
The workshops will run throughout the school year and are aimed at children and youngsters aged 8 to 17 years.
Taking centre stage at the ceremony held to present the courses, which took place out on the Ipurua pitch, were the Meccano robot and SD Eibar's Rubén Peña, who were able to interact with each other. Also in attendance at the event were Jon Arregi, head of the SD Eibar Foundation and Wiko's director of marketing, Teresa Acha-Orbea.
The courses are set to run over a period of three months and involve approximately 20 teaching hours divided up into sessions lasting one hour and 45 minutes (17:00-18:45 on any chosen day between Monday and Thursday).
Groups will be formed according to the levels of demand and will be split into three levels, based on age. The cost per student is €70 per course and registration is to be completed online via www.sdeibar/robotika
The objective of the initiative is to bring school pupils from Eibar and the surrounding area into contact with a discipline like robotics, which is occupying an increasingly important place in their daily lives with every passing day.
Robotics is a subject which is beginning to be taught in schools, where the robots occupy the role of educational and didactic resources, providing the boys and girls with a fun way of familiarising themselves with the world of programming.
The subject represents a unique means to create mental structures, as pupils are faced with daily challenges and promotes learning and innovation across all areas.
The course programme:
In the first term, which runs from October to December 2016, sessions will focus on Robotics. The following three levels of robotics classes are designed for the following three age groups and can be taught at the same time on the same day.
R2D2 (8-9 years)
MECCANO (10-13 years)
ROBOCOP (14-17 years)
In the second and third terms, the courses on offer will become wider in scope, with a more in-depth look at robotics, the creation and use of drones, as well as an introduction to the design of video games.
SPC, the creator of Wiko Iberia, is a Basque company headquarted in Vitoria-Gasteiz operating in the electronic consumables and multimedia fields. SPC has been supporting social activities which contribute to the development of culture and training for a number of years.
Back in the 2014/15 season, Wiko and SD Eibar came together to launch the 4000 pasos (4,000 steps) project, which saw four up-and-coming artists from different disciplines awarded scholarships. Proof of the success of the project came with the staging of the '4,000 pasos' contemporary dance show at Eibar's Teatro Coliseo. On this occasion, the two organisations are again joining forces to provide the generations of the future with training in new and innovate subjects such as robotics.
