SD Eibar squad undergo medicals at IMQ Clinic in Zorrotzaurre

IMQ has been SD Eibar's official medical provider since the 2016/17 season

The Eibar squad kicked off their pre-season campaign by undergoing their medicals, which were staged for the first time at the Sports Medicine Unit at IMQ's Zorrotzaurre clinic. The SD Eibar doctors and professionals from IMQ will spend today, 10 July, and tomorrow checking the physical fitness of the members of the first-team squad ahead of a busy pre-season schedule which includes a number of fixtures.

The 2017/18 pre-season campaign, which officially begins on 12 July, will see José Luis Mendilibar's charges travel to Austria, where they will face four games after having successfully come through their medicals.

The following players this morning underwent the testing: Markel Areitio, Roger Escoruela, Enrique García, Anaitz Arbilla, Jordi Calavera, Sergi Enrich, Tiago Dias, Dani García, Asier Riesgo and Jon Ander Amelibia. Whilst tomorrow, Tuesday 11 July, it'll be the turn of: Alexander Mesa, Christian Rivera, Rubén Peña, Takashi Inui, David Juncá, Álex Gálvez, Pedro León, Ander Capa, Gonzalo Escalante, Ivan Ramis and Unai Elgezabal.

The medical testing sees the club build on its relationship with IMQ, who for a a second successive year is putting the squad through their paces with a comprehensive medical designed for high-performance athletes. The medicals are being conducted by IMQ's sports medicine specialist Pablo Aranda and cardiologist Zigor Madaria. The tests feature a kinanthropometric assessment (weight, height and skin folds), assessment in rest mode (cardiac auscultation, pulmonary auscultation, resting electrocardiogram and blood pressure), lactate measurement test under intense effort and an echocardiogram at rest. All of these tests seek to improve the players' working conditions and tailor the training sessions to each player's needs.

The lactate measurement test under intense effort enables each player's aerobic and anaerobic performance levels to be measured, with a view to working on the scheduling of training sessions to ultimately improve performance levels.

As noted by Aranda, IMQ's specialist in sports medicine, "The medical consists of two very distinct parts. On the one hand, we make sure that the player is in optimum physical shape, whilst on the other we measure their heart intensity. We push them hard and make them suffer and sweat, but it's the only way to really discover their heart resistance and rule out any pathologies".

IMQ have been SD Eibar's official medical providers since the 2016/17 campaign. The Sports Medicine Unit at IMQ's Zorrotzaurre Clinic, which is where the medicals are being completed, boasts state-of-the-art technology in the field, as well as doctors who specialise in physical activity and sport, who are supported in their work by the physiotherapy and rehabilitation departments.
