SD Eibar shareholders choose Areitio as site for development of training facility

Last season's accounts, which featured a surplus of €14.2 million, were also approved during today's shareholders' meeting

The SD Eibar shareholders' meeting, which took place today, saw Areitio voted by a large majority as the site for the construction of the Armeros' new training facility.

The outcome of the voting saw 11,692 shares vote in favour of Areitio, whilst 6,071 voted in favour of Azitain.

During the course of the meeting, last season's accounts, which featured a surplus of €14.2 million, were approved. The budget for the 2018/19 season has been set at record levels of €49.2m, with a forecasted profit of €5.2m.

A total of 12,559 shares approved the accounts, whilst 1,136 voted against.

The agenda item which generated the most debate was the development of the club's own training facility, which will offer a training provision for the first team as well as the rest of the club's sides.

The board of directors put forward two proposals (Areitio and Azitain), both of which were discussed in the two meetings held with shareholders during the course of the past month.

Ultimately, the shareholders opted for Areitio, which is located in the borough of Mallabia (Biscay) and is the same distance from the centre of Eibar as the site proposed at Azitain, which is situated within the municipal area of Eibar.

The planned training facility consists of four football pitches (two grass and two synthetic pitches), with the option for a fifth pitch to be laid, if necessary.

In addition, the facility will involve a building for the first team (already built and to be developed), stands for the main pitches, dressing rooms and a parking area, amongst other facilities.

The estimated cost of the facility, including the purchase of the land and the construction work, is €16m.

This project is set to see SD Eibar gain its own heritage, which is something that the club currently lacks. What's more, the facility will enable all of the club's teams to train on the same site. The different teams that represent the club currently train on eight different sites.

The development of the new facility will not put the club into debt, given that it has available assets of over €30m.

Now that this proposal has been approved by the shareholders' meeting, the board of directors will immediately look to exercise the pre-purchase agreements with the owners of the land at Areitio and begin the planning procedures to allow for the work to be started as soon as possible.
