SALBATUAK - WELCOME REGUGEES the video documentary that SD Eibar Foundation has produced and that recounts the experience of different NGOs that help Syrian refugees
The video relates not only the experiences lived by volunteers who have gone to assist those displaced by the war in Syria, but also the point of view of those who help from a distance
SD Eibar Foundation, with its objective of collaborating with local associations and institutions, gives impetus to a new action that intends to draw attention to the situation of the refugees from the war in Syria . For this, the armero entity has made a documentary video that brings together three stories of three NGOs that voluntarily make their own small contribution to help the critical situation faced by the displaced.
Three stories and three ways of cooperating from Eibar:
Ane Ojanguren and Manu Ledo are two citizens of Eibar who have spent two weeks in Lesbos (Greece) to assist and give basic support to the refugees that arrive in rafts from the Turkish coast. Both left their lives and families in Eibar to collaborate selflessly at their own expense. The documentary is recorded before their departure for Greece. Today they continue to tell their story on their Facebook pages.
CARE, Comité de Ayuda a las personas Refugiadas de Eibar (Eibar Refugee Help Committee) is a nonprofit organisation that in Eibar coordinates the collection of food, clothing, winter clothes and items of basic necessity for babies, and gives a channel for the solidarity contributions made by the public so that these materials can reach the refugee camps in Turkey and Syria.
SMH, Salvamento Maritimo Humanitario (Humanitarian Maritime Rescue) is a Basque nonprofit organisation with an important number of citizens from Eibar, who travel to the Aegean Sea (Greece and Turkey) to collaborate from boats in the rescue of rafts that are drifting or on the point of sinking, providing basic assistance and first aid to the refugees and leading them to land.
The Three groups were filmed in the facilities of Ipurua to share their experiences. What they spoke about is now published in this video-documentary with the aim of conveying their experiences and encouraging new volunteers to join the cause.
SD Eibar Foundation has collaborated on numerous occasions with organisations and institutions that promote the help for the refugees from Syria. In particular, SD Eibar was the first club of La Liga to issue an institutional communication condemning the refugee crisis and urging the governments and European Institutions to find a solution giving a dignified welcome to all those people fleeing from the war. In addition, SD Eibar was the first European team whose players carried a banner reading “Refugees Welcome” during a league game
Furthermore, SD Eibar Foundation has collaborated:
- Donating a percentage of ticket sales in the game played against Atletico Madrid at Ipurua.
- Underwriting a collaboration agreement withUNHCR to send materials of basic necessity (food, water, winter clothes and tents) to the European external borders.
- Participating in the awareness campaign on the help for refugees led by La Liga and UNICEF.
