REPORT: Eibar's win over Valencia sees them move closer to their target

Eibar beat Valencia CF with goals from Ane Campos and Annelie Leitner, who scored for the first time in an Eibar shirt.

Eibar beat Valencia CF at the Estadio Antonio Puchades in the 26th round of fixtures in a hard-fought duel for the Eibar players and a triumph that tasted of glory against a team that were level on points in the standings. Although they struggled to create chances early on, both sides began to create danger as they looked to open the scoring.

It was around the five-minute mark when Espe Pizarro came close to scoring, but the ball went straight into the hands of the Valencia CF goalkeeper. Minutes later, the Valencia defence came close to scoring an own goal as they tried to deflect the ball wide. In the 13th minute, Eibar again came dangerously close to their opponents' goal, as Campos controlled the ball impeccably, arriving in time to pass the ball back to Espe Pizarro, who came close to opening the scoring.

Valencia, also with clear intentions, came close to Miralles' goal on two occasions, but a great clearance from Elba prevented a goal on that second occasion. Both teams had several dangerous approaches to their opponents' goal, but the game was still 0-0.

Jujuba's header was cleared off the line perfectly on the half hour mark. A few minutes later, Miralles made a superb save to prevent Valencia's first goal. Valencia didn't have many more chances and the score was level at half-time.

After the break, Eibar came back into the game with their sights firmly set on opening the scoring at long last and continuing their objective. Ane Campos scored the opening goal in the 62nd minute and Annelie added a second in the 82nd minute, her first goal in Liga F and her first goal in an Eibar shirt. It was an extremely important win for Eibar, and one that will help the side move closer to their objective. Next week, the team faces another important game in the final stretch: Villarreal CF.
