REPORT: Eibar stay in promotion places with win over Alcorcón (2-0)

Goals from Bautista and Corpas secured victory for the Armeros against Alcorcón

A goal from Jon Bautista on the stroke of half-time and another from Jose Corpas from the penalty spot in the 89th minute secured a 2-0 win for Eibar against Alcorcón, keeping the Armeros in an automatic promotion place with six games remaining in the league.

After an opening quarter of an hour in which Alcorcón were more clinical in their approach and were looking to test Luca Zidane, Eibar began to dominate the game and had their first chances on 16 minutes (Aketxe's shot hit the crossbar after hitting an opposition defender) and 17 minutes (a Tejero effort down the right which Mario Soriano came close to firing home).

The remainder of the first half saw the Armeros dominate the game (72% possession) with no clear cut chances. Just when it looked as though the half-time score would be 0-0, the reward for perseverance came in the second minute of stoppage time.

Álvaro Tejero took a free-kick from the right following a foul on him in an outstanding individual move and Jon Bautista, still in fine form, headed acrobatically into the net for his 15th goal of the season.

In the second half, Alcorcón's Iago López was shown a second yellow card in the 54th minute, leaving his side a man down.

Eibar's territorial dominance intensified and Joseba Etxeberria's side created a number of dangerous chances that could have seen them increase their lead.

Alcorcón pressed in the last few minutes in search of an equaliser, but they hardly had any chances and in the 89th minute, Corpas scored the winner from a penalty on Konrad de la Fuente. Players and fans celebrated another victory that keeps the team in second place, two points behind leaders Leganés with six games remaining in the league.
