REPORT: Eibar enjoy a 3-2 victory built on belief
Huesca fought back from 2-0 down to make it 2-2, but Los Armeros retook the lead and the three points
Goals from Juan Berrocal, Mario Soriano and Stoichkov earned Eibar a 3-2 win away at Huesca, who fought back from 2-0 down to make it 2-2 in the second half. However, Eibar never lost faith and ended up taking all three points.
Eibar led 2-0 at half-time and this was a fair reflection of what had happened on the pitch in the first half. The away side were in control of the game and were creating danger in front of goal. A curling effort from Mario Soriano in the 12th minute was pushed behind for a corner by the home keeper. In the 26th minute, Huesca’s goalkeeper then saved a one-on-one against Konrad, who had made a spectacular 75-metre run past opponents before finding himself alone in front of Álvaro Fernández.
The opener arrived in the 37th minute thanks to Juan Berrocal’s diving header at the far post from Aketxe’s corner from the right.
Huesca hadn’t yet recovered from that blow when Eibar scored their second in the 42nd minute, via a low right-footed shot from Mario following Ríos Reina’s pass on the left.
The second half got off to the worst possible start, though, with Hugo Vallejo’s first-minute goal for Huesca restoring the home side’s hopes.
Eibar could have scored a third in the 60th minute when Matheus’ left-footed strike from outside the area was turned behind for a corner by the goalkeeper. However, it was Huesca who equalised in the 65th minute with a volley from Kento from outside the area.
Los Armeros didn’t let the equaliser unsettle them, and soon took the lead again. In the 71st minute, Aketxe set up Stoichkov, who scored with a right-footed shot into the top corner.
Huesca pushed until the last moment, but Joseba Etxeberria’s charges defended their lead and achieved a very important victory.
