REPORT: Eibar draw 2-2, dropping points after going down to 10 men
Los Armeros played the final half hour with 10 men due to a red card for Sergio
Eibar dropped points after suffering a numerical disadvantage in the final half hour of their clash with Andorra. Sergio Álvarez was dismissed for a second yellow card, which preceded Andorra’s equaliser in what turned out to be a 2-2 draw.
This comes after the game on Monday against Villarreal B, when Eibar lost 1-0 through a stoppage time goal when also playing with a man disadvantage. Here, Andorra’s equaliser came late on too, in the 82nd minute via the penalty spot.
Andorra started the game better and were dominant in the opening minutes. As a result, they opened the scoring in the fifth minute, with a header scored by Iker Benito.
It wasn't until the 15th minute that the first dangerous chance arrived for Eibar, with a shot by Corpas that was saved by the visiting goalkeeper.
The equaliser to make it 1-1 came in the 23rd minute, and it was scored by Stoichkov. He tapped into an empty net after a brilliant cross from Cristian on the left. The equaliser spurred Eibar on, and they had three other chances to score in the following minutes. There was a Tejero shot that went narrowly wide (26th minute), a Jon Bautista effort from outside the area was turned behind for a corner by Dani (28th minute) and an Arbilla header from a corner (30th minute).
Eibar’s pressing paid off in the 36th minute when one of the Andorra defenders put the ball through his own net as he tried to prevent Stoichkov from stealing possession inside the area.
In the second half, Etxeberria’s team controlled the course of the game and pushed for a third goal. However, the situation changed in the 61st minute when Sergio Álvarez was sent off for a second yellow card.
Eibar put in a huge physical effort to neutralise Andorra’s attacks and hardly conceded any chances, but the visitors were awarded and converted a penalty in the 82nd minute and the game ended in a 2-2 draw.
