Osasuna set pieces undo Eibar side lacking cutting edge

The Armeros barely fashioned any chances in their penultimate pre-season outing

Osasuna ran out 2-0 winners over Eibar with two goals from set pieces in a game in which the Armeros failed to show any cutting edge and put the Navarrans umder threat.

Proceedings were largely played out in the middle third, with neither side able to make any real inroads into the opposition's box or boss the game.

The opening goal came on 36' when Roberto Torres's free-kick from the right was fired into the far corner by an unmarked David at the far post.

Just after the restart, Kike García had the Armeros' best chance of the game, but his effort, which came after he had dispossessed a home defender in the box, was palmed away by the Osasuna custodian.

José Luis Mendibilar made several changes but these failed to alter the complexion of the game. In the closing stages, Eibar became more dominant but they were repelled by a well-organised Osasuna backline which prevented the hosts any sights on goal.

With a minute remaining Osasuna put the result beyond doubt with Xisco firing into an empty net after an effort from a corner had been partly cleared.

Eibar bring the curtain down on their pre-season schedule tomorrow against Zaragoza at La Romareda (21:00 kick-off) as the two sides contest the Carlos Lapetra Memorial Trophy.
