Mendilibar: We've got through a lot of good, hard work in Kössen, although the results don't reflect that
The SD Eibar head coach declared that "you'd have trouble finding a better location"
Speaking about his side's training camp in Kössen (Austria), SD Eibar head coach, José Luis Mendilibar stated that, "we've got through a lot of good, hard work", whilst admitting that "the results don't reflect that".
In an interview given to the club's website, Mendilibar underlined that "we've trained well and before yesterday had picked up no injuries. Over the course of the nine days we've worked constantly, without having to stop for anybody. What's more, the location is superb, the hotel is just a stone's throw away from the pitches and for the most part, the weather has been good".
Reflecting on yesterday's defeat against FC Cologne and in reference to the injuries to Rubén Peña, Gonzalo Escalante and Kike García, the head coach commented that, "after having made a good start against our Bundesliga opponents, it was an eventful game and we soon started having some issues".
"All of that affected us quite badly. In the second half, we had people playing out of position and that made things more difficult and our performance levels dropped off. (Alejandro) Gálvez had only arrived the day before. He had started pre-season before us and right from the very first day he's played 90 minutes here. We can't really judge his performance, because he had hardly trained with us and he didn't know how we play. It's good that we're now able to count on him".
With regards to tomorrow's clash against Bundesliga newboys RB Leipzig, Mendilibar revealed that after the injuries picked up against Cologne, he will be forced to play some of the players who featured in that game. "We'll try to make less mistakes, particularly in defence. We've conceded goals from set pieces which we could have avoided and we've got to try to improve on our finishing. We're getting into the positions but we're struggling to put our chances away".
