Mendilibar: Villarreal are performing very well but we're capable of beating them
Tomorrow will see the Armeros stage their last training session prior to Sunday's game at Ipurua
Speaking today in his pre-match press conference ahead of his side's clash against Villarreal CF at Ipurua (12:00 kick-off), José Luis Mendilibar commented that Sunday's opponents "are really delivering in terms of results and performances", whilst insisting that his side are "capable of winning".
Mendilibar has a full squad available for the encounter against the Castellón outfit ahead of tomorrow's final training session of the week at Atxabalpe, which begins at 10:30.
"I'm sure that we'll have the chances to win the game. We'll have to play with real focus because they're a very quick, talented side and they're performing well at both ends of the pitch".
"I expect Villarreal to be tough opponents, they're a side that are delivering in terms of results and performances. They've shown themselves to be capable of scoring five goals and also of coming from behind in games. They're one of the sides with the best range of attacking options in the league and they look to get on the ball and make inroads into your box and do damage. They certainly don't dwell in possession".
In Mendilibar's eyes, his side is capable of hurting Villarreal if "we perform well, focus and try not to make mistakes". "I'm confident that we'll put in a very good performance and we'll have to see whether we're clinical enough in front of goal and if we manage to make as few mistakes as possible".
When asked about the fact that his side have shipped six goals in the last two games, Mendilibar insisted that "we've also scored five in those games too". "It's very difficult for you to be able to cover all eventualities. Even the biggest teams struggle to deny their opposition on the ground and in the air, and that's even more so the case for us. If you manage to get a 0-0 draw it's as if you've put in a really good performance, whereas if you draw 3-3 people look to pick out the mistakes. If we go out and try to score three goals, our opposition are going to end up causing us problems. We need to be ready and look to reduce those issues. I prefer us to draw 3-3 than 0-0".
