Luis Mari Aranegui, SD Eibar player in the 50’s and President between 1965-1967, dies at 85

SD Eibar and the entire gunsmiths family wish to express their condolences to the family of Luis Mari Aranegui (born on 21/06/1931) on his death. Luis Mari Aranegui was an armero player who not only did marvels on his left wing at the beginning of the 50’s when Eibar agreed to participate in the Third Division – he formed part of the squads from the 49-50 season until 53-54 –, but he also left his mark as president of the Club.
During his presidency, between 1965 and 1967, the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Club was commemorated in 1965 and the armeros obtained their 5th championship, but as would happen in the following years, his attempts to win promotion to the Second Division were in vain.
The Board of Directors has declared a minute’s silence in his memory to be held before the start of the game between SD Eibar and Real Sociedad. Rest in Peace.
