Lively encounter sees SD Eibar Women run out 2-1 winners over CD Tacón

The Armeras and the Madrilenians served up a fine spectacle as Ipurua once again played host to a women's fixture.

Today saw Ipurua stage a women's football match for the first time in 45 years. Whilst it's been some time in coming, Eibar and CD Tacón made sure that the wait was quickly forgotten about, as they played out an entertaining game, which proved equally enjoyable for the players and those in the stands.

With the fixture being a friendly, it's certainly true that the result wasn't the be all and end all, however football is ultimately all about goals and today the Armeras had the upper hand in that department, with  Félix Recio's charges running out 2-1 winners of a game which will go down  in the Ipurua history books.

Eibar were dealt an early scare when a lapse in the hosts' backline very nearly saw Tacón take the lead, but it came to nothing and after this the home side began to impose themselves.

Tacón dominated possession during a first period which was rather short on goalscoring chances, whilst Recio's side looked to catch the visitors out on the break.

If there's one thing that really impresses about this Eibar side it's their strength as a unit. The hosts showed themselves to be very disciplined in defence, whilst looking to exploit the pace of Sara Tazo and Ainhoa Alonso in attack.

In the first minute of the second half, Sara picked the ball up on the edge of the area and wriggled away from three defenders before finishing coolly past Sara Ezquerro de las Heras to hand Eibar a 1-0 lead.

The goal forced Tacón to show greater ambition and as they poured forward, this freed up gaps for Eibar to break into. In one of these counter-attacks, the ball reached captain Ainhoa Alonso, who showcased all of her class to beat the visitors' goalkeeper and fire the ball home to make it 2-0.

It looked like being an excellent evening's work for Eibar, but Tacón weren't finished just yet. On 77' a Lorena Navarro strike cut the deficit and the remaining minutes saw the Madrilenians lay siege to the Eibar goal as they went in search of an equaliser.

Eibar custodian, Jessica Garcia pulled off several fine saves in the dying moments to ensure her side held on for victory.

Those inside Ipurua chanted "galdu edo irabazi, emaitzak ez du garrantzi" (win or lose, the result doesn't matter) and today the result really wasn't the important thing, given that from kick-off the real winner in all of this was women's football.
