Eibar women’s team players undergo medical examinations at IMQ's Sports Medicine units

Eibar’s women’s team players underwent the mandatory medical check-up across Wednesday and Thursday to kick off the new 2023-24 season. The check-ups have been carried out at the Sports Medicine Unit of the IMQ Zorrotzaurre Clinic in order to verify the team's state of health and their level of sporting performance.

Yerai Martín's players were attended by Dr. Pablo Aranda, a specialist in Sports Medicine at IMQ, as well as by different professionals from SD Eibar's Medical Services, such as Dr. Honorio Martínez, who carried out complementary tests. Dr. Zigor Madaria, a cardiologist with the Basque insurance company, was in charge of performing echocardiographies on the members of the squad.

 

Examination and stress test

Prior to the start of the physical tests, the players underwent an echocardiography (an ultrasound of the heart), in order to extend the study of their health and detect possible heart disease that may go unnoticed in other tests. The examination also included a kinanthropometric assessment, which involves measuring weight, height and skinfolds to determine body fat. 

This was followed by a resting assessment of the players (cardiac auscultation, pulmonary auscultation, resting electrocardiogram and blood pressure), followed by an exercise test on a treadmill. The latter is an incremental stress test up to a maximum limit which allows the doctors to make a lactate determination, identifying the aerobic and anaerobic level of each player. The results are useful to optimize the programming of training sessions.

 

IMQ, Eibar's official medical insurer

IMQ has been the official medical insurer of SD Eibar since the 2016/2017 season. Eibar and IMQ renewed their sports sponsorship agreement in 2022 and, with this new agreement, the Basque insurer not only sponsors the sports team, but also makes its medical services available to the club's first squads and the technical staff.

IMQ's Sports Medicine Unit has state-of-the-art technology in this field, as well as doctors specializing in Cardiology and Sports Medicine, also offering rehabilitation and physiotherapy services.
