The SD Eibar Sports City enters its final phase

There are no reactions yet. Be the first!

The construction of SD Eibar's new sports facilities continues its course, and in just two weeks the remaining phases that will allow the Sports City to become a reality will begin.

In September, work started on the construction of the pedestrian sidewalk that will link the sports facilities with the town of Mallabia. Work has also begun on the construction of the traffic circle on the N-634 road as it passes through the Sports City, which will allow access to it from the main road.

Once all the necessary permits and licences have been obtained, in the next few days work will begin on the urbanisation of the Sports City, in addition to the construction of the stands for pitches one, two and three, a space which, in turn, will house changing rooms, gyms, offices and other required services.

In the next few weeks, work will be underway on all the remaining works required for SD Eibar's new facilities to be operational in the future.

A slow process which will culminate in the creation of the club's own facilities.

SD Eibar's shareholders decided in October 2018 on the need for the club to have its own sports facilities.

The collapse of the Zaldibar landfill, first, and the pandemic, later, as well as the complexity of the administrative procedures, have prevented the project from being carried out with greater agility.

In spite of everything, the Club has continued working at all times, obtaining the corresponding permits and licences to carry out each one of the phases of such a complex work as this one, bidding and awarding the works to different construction companies in order to, once all the authorisations were obtained, speed up the construction as much as possible.

The first phase of the work, which involved the corresponding earthworks and levelling, began in the summer of 2021 and was completed barely a year later. That part of the project required some environmental constraints that have been solved with hard work for many months, and subsequently allowed to incorporate into the new general plan for urban redevelopment of Mallabia for the land to be enabled and qualified for sports practice.

Once the first phase was completed, the old Esparru building was demolished. Although the possibility of maintaining the structure of the building was initially considered, adapting it to the new building code and to the needs proposed to accommodate sports practice meant a more costly investment than the construction of a new building.

After obtaining the activity licence at the end of last week, it is expected that in the next few days the work will start at a steady pace.

A project promoted by LaLiga

LaLiga Impulso has allowed the Club to be more ambitious with the sports facilities project than originally planned. The agreement between LaLiga and CVC establishes that 85% of the funds corresponding to SD Eibar will be allocated to the improvement and growth of the club. Part of this money will be used to optimise the initial infrastructure project, providing the Sports City with spaces and services that were not originally envisaged, as well as five pitches instead of the four that were proposed at the outset.
