Former Armeros players reminisce about Eibar's biggest-ever win over Villarreal at home
The game was played at Ipurua in the 92/93 season, when both sides were in the Second Division
SD Eibar legends Bixente Oyarzabal and Óscar Artetxe watched on with even greater interest than those alongside them in the presidential box at Ipurua during last weekend's clash, where the guests were hosted by President, Amaia Gorostiza along with board member and Vice-president of the Foundation, Jon Ander Ulazia. The duo expressed their pride as they looked back longingly on a fixture which was played in the 92/93 season and saw Eibar secure their biggest-ever victory at home to date over Villarreal, who, at the time, were also competing in the second tier. The Armeros ran out 4-2 winners, courtesy of an own goal from Fernando Maestre and strikes from Bixente, Artetxe and Iñaki Aldalur.
These are the sort of stories which will be recounted at the Astelena restaurant on 19 November during the lunch held to pay tribute to all of the players, coaches, board members and presidents who have served the club throughout its history.
Former SD Eibar players and members are set to open Ipurua's new East Stand on 19 November, which coincides with the fixture between the Armeros and RC Celta. The event has been organised by the SD Eibar Foundation along with Eibar City Council and its Municipal Sports Committee.
Members of the groups that the event seeks to honour who wish to attend are asked to pay a €15 reservation fee into the following account to secure their place: ES83 0138 0005 1400 1056 1744. The full amount of the monies raised will be donated to local NGO, Deparkel, which is dedicated to the fight against Parkinson's disease.
Any queries about the event should be directed to Roberto Marzana on 670 97 04 14. The club wishes to thank the SD Eibar Veterans' Association for its participation and hard work in ensuring that the initiative - which was initially proposed back in January 2013 and was on the agenda for the club's 75thanniversary, but has been put back until now on account of the renovation work being carried out on Ipurua - goes ahead.
With this tribute, SD Eibar are seeking to express their gratitude to a large number of individuals who have worked with effort and dedication, in many instances on a voluntarily basis, to raise the club to the privileged position which it currently finds itself in, whilst above all promoting and fostering the values which best define us as a club.
