Excessive punishment for an Eibar side who deserved more against Las Palmas (0-1)

Las Palmas snatch victory thanks to a goal from their only shot on target

Eibar were unduly punished as they were beaten 1-0 by Las Palmas in a game in which the Armeros deserved much more.

Sandro's direct free-kick in the 51st minute, his side's only shot on target in the entire game, secured all three points for the Islanders.

Both teams started the match eager to dictate the tempo and with a very high and intense pressure.

The Canaries were winning in terms of possession, but the game was mostly played in their own half, with Eibar closer to their opponents' area than their own.

A number of counter attacks led to chances for the Armeros which could have turned the game on its head before the break. In the 22nd minute, Jon Bautista came close to scoring with a shot from a Corpas pass that went narrowly wide, and in the 37th minute, a shot from outside the area from Quique went just over the crossbar.

Las Palmas, who had not come dangerously close to Luca's goal all game, scored from their first chance with a direct free-kick from Sandro.

The equaliser almost came in the 55th minute when Javi Muñoz fired a shot goalwards from close to the penalty spot from Quique's pass, forcing Valles into a superb save to turn the ball behind for a corner.

Eibar kept trying until the final whistle, but Las Palmas were able to hold on to their advantage and take all three points from Ipurua.

With three games remaining, Eibar are still second, an automatic promotion position, and depend on themselves to achieve the objective of promotion.
