Eibar Women fall short against Athletic B despite taking the lead

The Armeras were still very much in the game up until the 85th minute

Eibar Women succumbed to a 5-2 defeat against Athletic Club B at Lezama in a game which they were still in with a chance of taking something from as late as the 85th minute, at which point the hosts were leading 3-2.

The Armeras made a high-octane start and duly got their noses in front when Sara Tazo controlled the ball, before producing a chipped finish over the Athletic goalkeeper.

As the game wore on, the home side began to boss proceedings with their direct football seeing them dominate the play. The Bilbao outfit restored parity on 21' from a corner kick and forged ahead before the break, once again from a corner.

Athletic dominated the opening exchanges of the second half and made it 3-1 in the 61st minute. Just two minutes later, Areitio Olatz struck to give the Armeras hope, but with five minutes remaining, Las Rojiblancas hit a fourth to put the game beyond Eibar's reach.

There was still time for Athletic to add further gloss to the scoreline again on 87' as Eibar, who failed to really turn in a performance, had a chance to have come away from Lezama with something to show for their efforts in this meeting with the Group 2 champions.
