Eibar thump Betis on a magical night at Ipurua

The Armeros recorded the club's biggest-ever top-flight victory

Eibar tonight ran out resounding 5-0 winners over Real Betis in the sides' La Liga Matchday 12 encounter at Ipurua. The hosts enjoyed a perfect night which saw them claim the record for the club's biggest-ever top-flight win.

The Armeros made a really bright start as they applied a high press that prevented the visitors from playing the ball out from the back. There were just six minutes on the clock when Sergi Enrich turned home Takashi Inui's wicked cross to put Eibar into the ascendancy.

Despite it being Betis who were enjoying the lion's share of possession, Eibar remained on the front foot and forced the visitors' rearguard into a series of errors. The home side duly doubled their advantage with Gonzalo Escalante powerfully nodding home an inch-perfect cross from the left to put Eibar two goals to the good.

After the restart, the Armeros continued to look to get in behind the Betis backline. One such forward foray saw the home side awarded a penalty and Aïssa Mandi handed his marching orders as Eibar established a commanding three-goal lead after Charles outfoxed Antonio Adán by sending his spot-kick down the middle.

The Armeros then went on to enjoy their best spell of the game and took full advantage of their numerical advantage to give their morale a boost and secure the club's biggest-ever top-flight win. In the 70th minute, Charles fired home after being picked out by Iván Alejo's pull-back. Just 10 minutes later, Enrich was once again on target in a virtual carbon copy of the previous goal. Both forwards ended the game with two goals apiece on what was a night to remember for Eibar.
