Eibar swat Sevilla aside in 5-1 rout

The Armeros recorded their first-ever top-flight victory over the Sevillians in emphatic fashion

Eibar ran out comfortable winners over Sevilla in the sides' La Liga Matchday 22 encounter this afternoon. The Armeros bossed proceedings from start to finish to put the visitors to the sword in a sensational goal fest. Strikes from Kike García, Fabián Orellana (2), Iván Ramis and Anaitz Arbilla secured a historic win as the Armeros registered their first-ever top-flight victory over Sevilla.

In the very first move of the game, Kike García fired the Armeros into the lead. With just 40 seconds on the clock, the Eibar hitman bore down on Sergio Rico's goal and thumped home a fierce left-footed effort to set the hosts on their way. The Armeros had made a bright start and laid siege to the visitors' goal in the opening stages.  With just over a quarter of an hour gone, Orellana doubled the home side's advantage after Cote picked out the Chilean with a fine cross from the left side of the area. Eibar were enjoying their best spell of the game.

However, in the 21st minute, the referee awarded a penalty after Dani García was adjudged to have handled inside the area. The visitors converted the resulting spot-kick to reduce the arrears and get themselves back into the game. Far from being rocked by this setback, Eibar continued to play their game and were battling with great determination. With the game now 30 minutes old, Ramis headed home a corner to make it 3-1, which is how things remained as the teams went in at the break.

After the restart, the Armeros sought to continue imposing their high-tempo game, with the hosts' intense pressure preventing Sevilla from playing the ball out from the back. On the hour mark, Orellana capitalised on a misplaced pass from a visiting defender to nip in and round Rico before slotting home.

Despite trailing 4-1, the visitors kept probing but Eibar continued to look very solid and were managing the game excellently. In the final stages, Arbilla netted Eibar's fifth of the afternoon with a sumptuous free-kick that rounded off a historic day for the Armeros.
