Eibar tonight succumbed to a 1-0 reverse at the hands of Celta Vigo in the sides' Copa del Rey round-of-32 second-leg encounter. The visitors put in an excellent performance, in which they created a host of chances, and despite showing a lack of cutting edge, the Armeros certainly rattled Os Celestes, who ultimately claimed victory courtesy of Iago Aspas's last-minute spot-kick.

The opening stages saw Eibar apply a high press, which prevented the Vigo outfit from playing their usual game.  As the minutes ticked by, José Luis Mendilibar's men began to dictate possession and made several inroads into the Celta area. Eibar were posing a constant threat down the flanks, with the most clear-cut opening of the first half coming after Bebé's cross from the left found Kike García,  who failed to steer the ball on target.

After the restart, Eibar sought to catch their hosts by surprise as the visitors came flying out off the blocks. First up, Charles was denied by an inspired Sergio Álvarez  and just a few minutes later, Bebé came close to breaking the deadlock with a volleyed effort. The Eibar duo were once again in the thick of the action in the 54th minute, with Álvarez palming out a thumping Bebé strike from inside the box, and with the goal at his mercy, Charles contrived to send the rebound wide of the upright.

Whilst Eibar remained on the front foot throughout the rest of the second period, the visitors were failing to make their chances pay. In the 89th minute, by which point it looked as if the game was destined to end goalless, Aspas was upended by Marko Dmitrović inside the area. The referee pointed to the spot and the Galician hitman made no mistake. This defeat sees Eibar bow out of the Copa del Rey, with Celta running out 3-1 aggregate winners.

As well as offering a good account of themselves, another positive from an Eibar perspective was that feeder-team midfielder Julen Azkue made his competitive bow. The Zarauz​​-born youngster entered the fray in the 67th minute in place of Joan Jordán and enjoyed a solid debut.
