Eibar succumb to 3-0 defeat at Villarreal

A Bakambu hat-trick put the game beyond the Armeros' reach

Eibar slipped to a 3-0 defeat against a Villarreal side that imposed themselves on proceedings right from the off. Javi Calleja's charges got their noses in front when the game's standout performer, Cédric Bakambu, lofted the ball over Marko Dmitrović to hand Los Groguets a 1-0 lead. Prior to conceding that goal, Eibar carved out their best chance of the first half with a Gonzalo Escalante header.

After the restart, Villarreal doubled their advantage, with the Congolese hitman turning home Nicola Sansone's pass to claim his second of the night. The Armeros came close to hauling themselves back into the game with a Takashi Inui effort, but Bakambu extinguished any hopes of an Eibar comeback when he converted from the spot to complete his hat-trick.

In the final stages, Joan Jordán came within the width of the crossbar of reducing the arrears, with his effort from outside the area rattling the woodwork.

This defeat saw Eibar slip to their fifth reverse of the campaign. José Luis Mendilibar's side now head into the international break, before welcoming Deportivo La Coruña to Ipurua for a what's poised to be a crunch clash.
