Eibar slip to 3-0 reverse at Santiago Bernabéu

The Armeros gave a good account of themselves against Real Madrid and deserved more from the game

Eibar began this encounter with a clear game plan. The visitors' objective was to prevent Los Merengues from playing the ball out from the back, a tactic which lead to several forays into the hosts' box in the opening exchanges.  One of the clearest of these opportunities fell to Joan Jordán, whose effort from the edge of the area was gathered in by Kiko Casilla.

However, the game soon began to swing in the home side's favour, with Real Madrid taking an 18th-minute lead courtesy of a Paulo Oliveira own goal.  Shortly afterwards, Marco Asensio doubled Madrid's advantage when he rattled home an Isco centre. Far from crumbling, the Armeros kept plugging away and ended the first half strongly.

After the restart, the sides traded the upper hand with Eibar posing a threat on Casilla's goal.  Despite being behind, José Luis Mendilibar's men gave their all to remain in the game and carved out some good chances engineered by Takashi Inui, who was heavily involved down the left flank.

However, Real Madrid kept their concentration up throughout and on 82' they scored their third goal of the game through Marcelo following a three-man link-up on the edge of the area.  The Armeros kept going until the final whistle, but the goal their efforts deserved ultimately failed to materialise.
