Eibar secure 47th Carlos Lapetra Memorial-City of Zaragoza Trophy

The Armeros ran out 2-0 winners over Real Zaragoza in their final pre-season fixture

Eibar returned home from Zaragoza with a prestigious piece of silverware in tow after tasting glory in the 47th Carlos Lapetra Memorial-City of Zaragoza Trophy following a 2-0 victory secured courtesy of Takashi Inui's strike and a Benito own goal.

The Armeros gave a better account of themselves than they had yesterday in Pamplona to round off their pre-season campaign on a high note. The side's next outing will be their first competitive fixture of the campaign, when they open their LaLiga season away to Málaga on Monday 21 August in a 22:00 kick-off.

Mendilibar's men got on the front foot in this game in the early stages and without performing to their best, began to boss proceedings. In the final minutes of the first period, the Armeros' dominance became even greater and they came close to breaking the deadlock on 35' when Inui crashed his effort against the crossbar after having been put clean through against Ratón.

After the restart, the Aragonese outfit came out intent on asserting themselves and duly got on top in the opening minutes. However, Eibar continued to threaten, looking menacing as they dispossessed the hosts on a number of occasions in the middle third.

In the 53rd minute in one of these instances, Joan Jordán regained possession and found Inui, who this time made no mistake as he fired low past Ratón.

Five minutes later, Rubén Peña came a whisker away from doubling the visitors' advantage after meeting Cote's left-wing cross with his head.

Eibar duly struck a second on 65' when Iván Alejo shaped in a cross from the right towards Peña, and as he sought to clear the danger, Benito contrived only to put the ball into his own net.
