Eibar secure 4-1 away win over Girona

The Armeros made the most of their first-half advantage to take the spoils

Eibar recorded victory over Girona in the sides' LaLiga Matchday 36 encounter, which proved to be a very evenly matched contest. The Armeros went in at the break two goals to the good, only for the hosts to halve the deficit from a set-piece route soon after the restart. José Luis Mendilibar's men produced their best to resist the home side's attacking play, before putting the result beyond all doubt in the final stages.

Eibar's rip-roaring start saw them forge ahead early on. Takashi Inui leapt highest to head Johan Mojica's misplaced pass into Dani García's path and he teed Kike García up to tap home into an empty net in the ninth minute. Despite going behind, Girona didn't crumble and as the minutes ticked by, the home side began to pose a threat on Asier Riesgo's goal, with the Armeros' shotstopper called in to action on several occasions to keep his side's lead intact.

Just as the hosts were enjoying one of their best spells of the game, Eibar doubled their advantage, when Kike García nodded home Cote's outswinging corner. Within a matter of minutes, the Eibar hitman had the chance to complete his hat-trick in the last move of the half, but Bono produced a fine reflex save to push his headed effort over the bar.

With the second half barely under way, Aday Benitez reduced the arrears from a corner routine. The hosts really pushed for an equaliser and Pablo Machín's men had several chances to level terms, but the Eibar backline and Riesgo remained solid throughout.

In the 80th minute and with Girona probing for an equaliser, Inui picked himself up after having been bundled over in the centre circle and took a quick free-kick that saw Joan Jordán sent clean through on goal. The midfield made no mistake as he fired the ball past Bono with aplomb.

In the dying embers of the game, Inui capped off a fine afternoon by netting the team's fourth goal. The Japanese winger collected Kike García's lay-off and thumped the ball home from the edge of the area to round off a result that secured the club's first-ever victory at Montilivi.
