Eibar lose to FC Barcelona’s women’s team despite a tough defensive display

Las Armeras lost 4-0 in their penultimate match at Ipurua of the 2023/24 season.

With SD Eibar’s women’s team having just three days to prepare for this game, it was always going to be tough to face the best team and champions of Liga F. Even though Yerai Martin’s side are close to sealing survival, they couldn’t do so in the pouring rain at Ipurua, where a strong FC Barcelona dominated the first half.

In the 16th minute, Salma Paralluelo scored the first goal for FC Barcelona, before they added two more in the 20th and 38th minutes. Yet, Las Armeras’ morale was not to be beaten. Despite going in 3-0  down at half-time, they came back stronger in the second half. It was a very uncomfortable match for both teams, with the pitch causing the players to slip frequently, especially in the second half when it didn't stop raining for a minute.

Yerai Martin made changes on the hour mark at Ipurua, taking off Campos, Amani and Carla, who gave their all on the pitch, and giving minutes to Honoka, Van Deursen and Esperanza Pizarro. Minutes later, captain Arene Altonaga came on for Zaïra Flores.

Las Armeras created chances on several occasions in the second half, while they also cleared any balls that came close to Noelia’s goal. Despite FC Barcelona scoring for the fourth time, Eibar continued to hold strong in defence in the second half, as they often do against opponents of this calibre.

Yerai Martin’s side will now enjoy a well-deserved week’s rest before returning to prepare for their final two games, with no more league games coming until the weekend of June 9th.
