Eibar lacked the punch to achieve something positive in Sevilla after a good game
The gunsmiths’ good play wasn’t enough to neutralise Llorente’s first-half goal
Eibar couldn’t profit from their good football and lost 1-0 to Seville, in a game that the gunsmiths controlled for long periods, but lacked the sharpness in the opposite side's area required to get a good result.
José Luis Mendilibar’s team was only inferior for the first fifteen minutes of the game, during which Seville dominated - scoring their goal in the 11th minute when Fernando Llorente capitalised on Krohn-Dehli’s pass from the left to score on the half turn.
During the first half, control of the game alternated, with the playing concentrated in the middle of the field, with few forays into the areas. Mendilibar decide to reinforce the midfield with Adrián and Radosevic, who brought physicality and robustness to the middle of the park, but left the wings short of depth.
Following the break, Eibar came out confident of turning the score around, dominating play and closing in on their opponent's goal with some danger. A shot by Borja in the 52nd minute following a nice combination in attack and a header from the same player that was turned away by Sergio Rico, were the first dangerous attacks by the gunsmiths.
Seville entrusted their luck to counter attacks and could have sentenced the game in one of them, but Asier Riesgo was inspired, especially in the one-on-one with Banega in the 72nd minute that he resolved brilliantly to avert the danger.
The clearest opportunity for Eibar came in the 83rd minute when Sergi beat the keeper but slipped slightly when he was about to shoot and, despite touching the ball, was unable to score.
With the game almost over, Sául Berjón took a free kick from the left but his direct shot was saved by Sergio Rico.
Eibar left the Sánchez Pizjuán bolstered by having played a good game against a rival of real European stature, but dismayed at having been unable able to secure even a point in their visit to Seville.
