Eibar extend winning streak against Real Zaragoza to remain in promotion places (1-0)

A first-half goal from Jon Bautista secured victory for the Armeros

Eibar maintained their positive run in early 2024 and picked up three more points with a 1-0 win over Real Zaragoza thanks to a first-half strike from Jon Bautista.

It was only the 7th minute when what proved to be the only goal of the game arrived with an accurate header by Jon Bautista from Tejero's pass from the right. The move had been set up by a brilliant run from Matheus and a subsequent pass from Aketxe into Tejero's advanced position.

The goal did Eibar the world of good and they began to dominate and create danger. In the 13th minute, Mario Soriano came close to increasing the home team’s lead with a left-footed shot from inside the area that was well saved by the well-placed Badía. An even clearer chance came in the 28th minute when Bautista made space for himself inside the six-yard box, but his close-range effort was kept out by the Zaragoza goalkeeper.

Eibar were creating some good attacking moves and came close to increasing their lead against a Zaragoza side who were unable to neutralise the Armeros' play in midfield and out wide. There were no further alterations to the scoreline, however, and the score remained 1-0 at half-time.

The intensity and excitement increased in the second half. Zaragoza stepped up a gear in search of an equaliser and Eibar tried to put the game to bed with a second goal.

Uncertainty remained until the final whistle, but Eibar were comfortable as they hold on to their lead, and picked up three important points to keep the team in an automatic promotion position.
