Eibar continue accumulating points with the aim of finishing in the top ten

During an hour of play Eibar had mathematical salvation in their grasp (they are already virtually safe) but Deportivo’s drive gained its reward and the gunsmiths had to settle for adding another point that brings them a little closer to the objective of ending the season in the top ten.

Mendilibar’s team started the match very motivated, playing vertically on the wings and getting into the box and it wasn’t long before they took the lead. The first half was clearly Eibar’s, who ran and fought more than their rival and had chances to increase their lead, mainly on the counter attack. Two brilliant plays by Borja (a shot that went high after a one-two with Keko in the 25th minute and an overhead kick that nearly went in nine minutes later) were the clearest chances.

For Deportivo, their most notable opportunity came in the 28th minute when Fayçal’s shot across the goal went narrowly wide.

After the restart Deportivo started to dominate proceedings and Eibar continued to look for their second goal, thanks above all to the set pieces by Hajrovic, who in the 56th minute smashed the ball onto the angle between the post and crossbar with a sweet left-foot shot from a direct free kick. Shortly afterwards, he almost scored direct from a corner.

Halfway through the second half the match became a little crazy, with continuous to and fro attacks that seemed to promise more goals. Slowly but surely, Depor’s dominance had an impact and they collected their prize in the 71st minute when Fede Cartabia beat Asier Riesgo with a raking shot across the goal from the corner of the area.

Both teams were tiring and there was little more left in the game, which finished with the points being shared - a fair result on the basis of the chances had by each side.
