Eibar close year out with superb 4-1 victory over Girona

Goals from Charles, Jordán and an Inui brace made it a perfect night for the Armeros

Eibar tonight eased to victory over Girona in the sides' LaLiga Matchday 17 encounter.

The Armeros extended their fine recent run of form to sign off for the year on the back of the club's best points streak since achieving promotion to the top flight.

The game got off to a rip-roaring start and with just a minute on the clock, Takashi Inui fired the home side ahead in the very first attack of the game. The Japanese attacker weaved his way across the box before unleashing a powerful strike that flew past the visitors' goalkeeper.

Ten minutes later, the Armeros built on their fine start to proceedings following another excellent move down the left. Inui's backheeled pass freed Cote and his inch-perfect cross from the byline picked out Charles, who nodded home with aplomb.

However, Girona didn't give up on the game and following an earlier warning shot, the visitors halved the deficit courtesy of a stunning David Timor free-kick. Eibar looked to extend their advantage before half-time with Bebé coming close to adding to the hosts' lead, but no further goals were forthcoming before the interval.

Girona came out after the break looking determined to get themselves back on levels terms and despite dominating possession, it was Eibar who made the most of their chances. Eibar duly restored their two-goal lead when Charles flicked on a lofted ball to Kike García, who didn't hesitate before getting a shot in. Bono could only palm his effort away and Inui was on hand to tap home.

From this point on, Eibar showed good game management to go on and see out the remainder of the second period. José Luis Mendilibar's men produced a disciplined display and offered a resigned Girona no route back into the contest. Just when it looked as if this is how the game would end, Joan Jordán capped off an excellent night's work for Eibar when he steered home a Rubén Peña cross from the right to complete the rout.
