Eibar are convincing and dominate, but are held to a goalless draw by Leganés

All that was missing in Saturday’s match was a goal

Eibar weren’t able to continue their winning run this Saturday, as Los Armeros were held to a 0-0 draw by this weekend’s visitors to Ipurua, Leganés. The home side dominated throughout, but couldn’t find the breakthrough goal.

From the very first minute, Eibar went on the attack and looked to pin Leganés back in their own half. Even though the opposition pressed a lot all over the pitch, they couldn’t keep the ball for long.

It was Eibar doing the attacking and they largely did so via the flanks, but they struggled to break through Leganés’ back line, so there weren’t too many dangerous sights of goal from inside the area.

A determined shot by Jon Bautista after a nice piece of individual play was well blocked by ex-Eibar goalkeeper Asier Riesgo in the seventh minute, before Jose Corpas shot high on the rebound at a freekick. Those were the clearest chances of the first half, in which Gaizka Garitano’s team lost Álvaro Tejero to injury in the 31st minute.

Not much changed to the pattern of play in the second half, with Eibar continuing to search for a way past Riesgo with ambition, but without any real bite.

It was actually Leganés who came closest to taking the lead, when a right-footed shot from Nyom rattled the crossbar in the 66th minute.

After that, Los Armeros were quickly back on the attack and January signing Juan Carlos Arana even made his debut, but it wasn’t enough to secure what would have been the 14th victory of the season.
