Beñat San José: "We are very frustrated, even angry, about the situation we are in because this is not Eibar's objective."
SD Eibar tests its ability to react against Racing on Sunday at 4:15 PM at the Campos de Sport de El Sardinero, a venue it has described as "the best to show that we have a lot to say."
Work week: «It has been a tough week, I have to be honest, and not just professionally, but also personally. The defeat the other day needs to be analyzed very deeply and with a lot of self-criticism about small details that are costing us a lot. In the end, no one can deny that the team is very much alive because we create many chances, but we also cannot deny that in 80, 90% of the games where things haven't gone well, there have been glaring mistakes at key moments. That is the big bad news and, on the other hand, the good news. Continuing with the rhythm of play we have, with pressure and creating chances, if we eradicate those mistakes... These are realities that we have faced this week, which has been very tough. We have addressed the mistakes, analyzed them in front of the players, and we have done very strong self-criticism. I am the coach, and I am ultimately responsible for improving this now. We are creating goal opportunities in every game and we are always there, but it is true that in almost every game we are making mistakes that are penalizing us. It has been a week with a very significant blow, but I have a team of players who are self-critical and who focus on training to the fullest, to the limit at times, and I like that».
Formula against mistakes: «We need to string together three positive results because many times it is a matter of morale, of mentality. It is also a matter of stress. If you are under stress, you don't work the same, you are not as relaxed, you don't act the same. My players are giving it their all, no one can say they are not trying their hardest, no one can say we are not going for every game, but yes, it is true that at key moments the ghost comes to us. I believe those key moments will fade when we string together a series of positive results».
Racing at El Sardinero: «A mythical stadium, a stadium with mystique. We like to play in that kind of stadium. They are a very, very talented and technical opponent. Not only with some quality players but with many quality players and a very high-quality style of football. I think their coach has very clear ideas, they have been working with him for some time, and it shows that there is a well-constructed process. Despite being at the top, they have also had their slumps in the league, but then they show that when they come together in the areas where they are virtuous, they are very good. They are undoubtedly among the best in the league. They are clearly aiming to be promoted directly, and I think this is the best moment and challenge to show that we have a lot to say. These matches sometimes multiply that confidence that one can grab and that we need to gain. It is the best scenario we could visit because it really is a good stadium, a good team».
Union with the fans: «We understand them perfectly because one thing is that last year we finished the season with a lot of excitement, and the season started very strong, very well, with a lot of excitement. And although the sporting director also mentioned that the reality of Eibar's objectives is no longer the same as in previous years, that does not mean that no one wants to see us there. We really have a lot of ambition, and seeing ourselves there does not make us proud. Moreover, as a coach and as a person, I am experiencing it very deeply. And the fans have every right to be angry and dissatisfied, but deep down, I think they know that the team competes in every game, we always have many chances, the team is alive, and that is felt. But of course, we are all very frustrated, even angry about the situation we are in in the standings. This is not Eibar's goal. We want to be higher up, and above all, because being higher up means better results. And better results mean happiness for the people, and that is one of the things that matters most to me. I think people do feel identified with the team's play, but obviously, none of us feel identified with the results. And there we have to be self-critical and improve, move forward, without excuses and without doubts. To tell the fans that their support is very noticeable, that if there are some criticisms, we accept them, and from there, we are going to fight to the fullest to climb up the table».
