Aranzábal: I wish Eibar all the best and hope that it continues reaching its goals and generating new ideas that will allow the club to carry on growing
Final press conference by Alex Aranzábal as President of SD Eibar
In his last press conference as the President of SD Eibar, Alex Aranzábal today said that he wishes “all the best” for Eibar, hoping that “it continues reaching its goals and generating new ideas that will allow the club to carry on growing”.
Aranzábal stated that “an era that began eleven years ago has ended”, defining it with the words “transformation and boldness”.
“In the last four years, we have gone from playing in Lemona, Guijuelo and La Muela, to playing at the Santiago Bernabéu and the Camp Nou. We have gone from having 800 spectators at a game to having more than 5,000 members”.
“In the Second (B) Division, we had to make cutbacks that meant the disappearance of the reserve team. Last season we had a surplus of €4 million and this year it is €10 million, which in percentage terms places Eibar among the most profitable clubs in Europe.
“The image of the Eibar brand is now recognised worldwide and we are going to have our third season in the First Division. Our achievement has been such that this Club became the subject of a university study”.
“None of this would have occurred if we hadn’t taken a step forward and been courageous on issues such as raising capital. Most levers for change have sparked some doubts at the beginning”.
Aranzábal expressed his gratitude to “all those people who have formed part of this incredible and emotional journey”.
“These seven and a half years have been increasingly tiring and the moment has arrived when I have decided to go. So much dedication, commitment and sacrifice in my personal life has left me tired, worn out and exhausted. I leave relaxed, with the feeling that it has been an extraordinary journey”.
