Eibar’s poor start cost them on Sunday as they fell to a 3-0 defeat to Cartagena at Ipurua.

Los Armeros conceded twice in the first five minutes, with Jairo getting the first in the second minute and Borja Valle adding a second in the fifth for Luis Carrión’s men.

The early goals forced Eibar to react as they looked to claw their way back into the game, and Gaika Garitano’s men did go on to dominate, but they struggled to create clear-cut opportunities.

Jon Bautista came close in the 10th minute, while the visitors almost scored an own goal on the half-hour mark, leaving Eibar frustrated at the break.

In the second half, Eibar continued to dominate, and Stoichkov came close to pulling one back four minutes before the hour-mark, firing just over.

With Eibar chasing the game, Cartagena were able to put the game to bed in the 69th minute, with former Armero Pablo de Blasis scoring on the counter-attack - and the attacking midfielder did not celebrate his goal.

Eibar continued to fight for a route back into the game, but the score-line was too much to overcome, and the game finished 0-3.
