A dream Eibar wins convincingly and remains sixth in the table
A goal from Inui, two from Sergi and two from Borja give Eibar 33 points after 20 league matches
A dream Eibar, breaking records and astounding both local supporters and those outside the club, has achieved the most one-sided victory in its history in the First Division (along with the 0-4 in Seville two weeks ago) against a Granada that was flattened by the impressive fire power of the Gunsmiths.
The 5-1 was an unforgettable reward for the 4,215 spectators who made the journey to Ipurua and enjoyed a spectacle of good football and goals that left them not just happy, but speechless.
The match began with deadlock. Granada played to their strengths, with a tight defence of their area and an attempt to block off the wings, aware that this is the main line of attack of Mendilibar’s team.
The first half seemed to be heading for goalless draw when Keko Gontán broke the impasse, opening up the Granada defence in two moves that turned the match his team’s way. In the 35th minute, his pass to Inui from the right was finished off flawlessly by the Japanese player who came running in on the far post. And in minute 37, Enrich glanced the ball with just enough to pace to beat Andrés after a cross from Keko.
Despite all of Granada’s precautions, the goals still came in the way that was most predictable: from the wings.
Eibar had the match well under control in the second half but their first (and only) defensive mistake allowed El Arabi to reduce the gap as he scored in an open goal in the 65th minute. Uncertainty gripped Ipurua.
But within three minutes the team had increased the lead again, which is the kind of thing that happens when you are on a roll. In minute 68, Borja passed to Sergi Enrich and the player from the Balearic islands scored his second goal of the night with a low shot from the edge of the area which was well directed just inside the post.
The goal marked the clear end to the Granada resistance and paved the way for a rampant Eibar who attacked the Granada goal hungry for more. After 73 minutes, Borja Bastón picked up the rebound after a shot by Keko and scored with a powerful low shot. Five minutes later, Borja again (who now has twelve goals in the league) finished off from in front of an almost open goal a great individual move by Sergi Enrich on the right, nutmeg included.
The last few minutes were a case of pure enjoyment for the fans, who savoured the victory of their team, which has won 12 points from a possible 12 in recent games and is making huge strides towards the target of staying in the First Division.
