0-0 | A point that feels like too little
SD Eibar dominated Leganés at Ipurua, but the woodwork denied them the three points.
The Starting Eleven
Beñat San José chose the following starting eleven for his return to Ipurua: Jonmi defended the goal; Corpas took the right-back position; Marco Moreno and Arbilla formed the central defense, with Buta on the left-back. In the midfield, Lander Olaetxea and Peru Nolaskoain were positioned. On paper, Guruzeta and Alkain started from the wings, with Martón as the attacking midfielder and Jon Bautista in the number nine position.
Arbilla and Guruzeta lead the attack in the first half
With the identity traits that characterize Eibar —high pressing and great verticality—, the "armeros" entered the match by stealing and attacking from the very first minute, thanks to a recovery by Peru that Martón failed to finish. Duk responded for Lega, though without precision, through a corner kick.
Guruzeta, on the left wing, provided the necessary depth to dominate and trouble a Leganés team that defended very wide, with five men, and very deep. In this scenario, San José worked to give prominence to his full-backs. And, although in one of those runs behind the wing-backs Naim had the clearest chance for the visiting team, Eibar understood that their opponent would not open up spaces at the back and decided to flood the area with crosses in search of the two forwards who, in practice, crowded the box.
The crowd's sigh came with a double chance from Arbilla: first, the center-back headed a corner that missed by centimeters; shortly after, he came close to scoring again with a direct free kick that hit the post.
With dominance, but also with a slight pause in hostilities, the 30th minute of play was reached, marking Eibar's most aggressive moment with the ball. The "armeros" created up to five dangerous chances during this siege, the clearest being from Guruzeta, with a volley at the edge of the small area that Soriano managed to deflect with difficulty.
Despite Eibar's persistence, greater initiative, and constant sense of danger, the prediction of a tight match held true, awaiting an increase in intensity during the second half.
Guruzeta, post and substitution
The strong start by Leganés, with a shot on Jonmi that he saved without any trouble, did not overshadow the adjustments made by San José's team, which regained control of the ball and with it came the first chances of the second half.
The worst news came in the 50th minute with Marco Moreno requesting assistance due to discomfort in his knee. He was eventually substituted by Arambarri, and the coach took the opportunity to bring on Javi Martínez for a booked Olaetxea.
The change worked perfectly for Eibar, which hit the post in the 55th minute. After a great team play initiated by the newly entered player, Guruzeta controlled the ball at the edge of the area, drove inside, and curled a shot that struck the woodwork. The effort from the number 10 ultimately sidelined him due to muscle problems, and Álvaro Rodríguez came on to replace him.
Eibar kept pushing forward but lacked the final clarity to decide the match. This was sought with the introductions of Magunazelaia and Toni Villa. Persisting and dominating, they continued to reach the area and test Juan Soriano, but in the end, the goal did not come.
What's coming
