Atxabalpe played host to a special occasion on Friday evening, as the second of Eibar's pre-season fixtures took place at the club's training ground in Arrasate. The clash marked the first time that the venue had staged a game featuring a top-flight side, a fact that was reflected by the healthy numbers in attendance.

Just as he had done in Irún, José Luis Mendilibar fielded two different starting line-ups in each half. In the opening 45 minutes it was La Real's second string who enjoyed the better of things, as the visitors claimed the only goal of the game after the referee had pointed to the spot for a handball from Mauro.

After the interval, the Armeros came out with greater intent as they began to control proceedings and whilst the hosts failed to stage a comeback, both the Eibar faithful and Mendilibar expressed their satisfaction at their side's display.

At the final whistle, Toni Ruiz, SD Eibar's fitness coach offered his assessment: "We've now had two games and the idea was for them to get 45 minutes each, we've avoided injures and they got through a good amount of work. We now have to build on this. The players have to continue picking up the pace".

Season after season Ruiz is tasked with the challenge of ensuring that the players are in peak physical condition: "Every year they report back in better shape, the training methods have changed, you watch these games and can see how there's a tempo to them, our assessment of the way things are going is positive. They're making progress, although this is just the start, there's still a lot of work ahead of us. At this stage it's all about them taking the ideas on board and avoiding injuries".

Ruiz closed by offering his views on a pre-season programme which this year includes the club's first international training camp: "The trip away is good for us, firstly it will allow us to get to know each other, and we'll also be facing strong opposition, which will enable us to see where we're at".
