A Pedro León strike in his first game at Ipurua handed Eibar the three points in a contest in which the Armeros struggled in the opening half, but produced a strong, assured performance after the break.

In the first half it was Valencia that enjoyed the better of the chances, with the visitors making inroads down the flanks, as they threatened Asier Riesgo's goal on numerous occasions. Riesgo was one of the star men in a performance which included several noteworthy saves.

However, Los Che were unable to finish their chances, squandering a number of gilt-edged openings.

On the stroke of half-time, Eibar very nearly took the lead after two headers from successive corners narrowly missed the target.

After the restart, the hosts upped their game and posed a greater threat, whilst continuing to keep things tight at the back.

On 61 minutes, as Eibar poured forward in attack, the referee pointed to the spot after Aymen Abdennour had handled in the area. Pedro León stepped up to take the spot-kick but Mathew Ryan guessed right. However, the Valencia custodian could only palm the ball back out to León, who gleefully tucked home what would turn out to be the only goal of the game.

After going behind, Valencia probed away as they looked to stage a comeback, but they came up against a fine rearguard effort from Eibar, as the hosts refused to offer the Valencians a route back into the game. As the minutes ticked away, the Armeros continued to press well all over the pitch, whilst looking to break away on the counter.

Riesgo was called upon to produce a vital save in injury time when he dived at the feet of an onrushing Valencia forward to deny the visitors a clear sight on goal. The final whistle was greeted with euphoria by those inside Ipurua, as the home faithful revelled in seeing their team claim the first three points of the campaign in what was the club's first ever La Liga win over Valencia, after three defeats and a draw in the sides' previous meetings.
